Beschreibung

Registered in Sweden in January 1984, and the latest user acquired the car in April 1986. For many years, it was stored during the winter and primarily driven during the brighter seasons. The previous owner and user took great care of the car, considering it his pride and joy, and it accumulated many miles during his ownership. The current odometer reading is 322 850 km, which isn't much over 51 years. The current owner, a real estate company, inherited the car and is now selling it for charitable purposes. An additional engine, which may be the original one, is included. The car features a Denon car stereo with a CD changer in the trunk and a police radio in the glove compartment, although its functionality is uncertain.

Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand

  • Zustand technisch:

    The car was started with a jump start and driven carefully in the vicinity. Most things appear to work well, but the car needs a thorough inspection to ensure all functions are in working order. It has not been checked on a lift.

  • Zustand Interieur:

    The interior appears to be original with some patina but overall in good condition. The seats and upholstery are in typical Mercedes-Benz quality. The door panels, carpets, and headliner are in good shape. It's a bit dirty, a detailing job will enhance the overall impression.

  • Zustand Exterieur:

    Neat paintwork, but there are some areas where it's bubbling, especially on the front fenders, etc. Newer Mercedes-Benz wheels in good condition with good tires. Glass and chrome are in good shape with occasional small damages. Equipped with fender chrome and a spoiler on the rear hatch.

  • Zustand gesamt:

    A nice 70s coupe and grand tourer, in a nice color combination, now in need of some attention and various repairs. Regardless of where one sets the bar, the new owner will get a nice classic to cruise around with, enjoy in the city, or take on the country roads.

Fakten zum Modell

It's a well-known fact that both the epithets "Super" and "Sport" were used in the 1930s Mercedes SSKL - Super Sport Kompressor Leicht from 1931. Whether the Mercedes designation "SL" in the post-war era stands for "Super Leicht" or "Sport Leicht" depends on whose version of Mercedes history you listen to.

What we do know is that the new racer, the 300 SL with gullwing doors that came in 1952, eventually led to the production of a more civilized road version from 1954 to 1957. When that model disappeared, they made an open roadster version with the same performance and look from 1957 to 1963.

At the same time, they also produced a somewhat tamer version of an SL in the R121 Mercedes 190 SL, which was produced from 1955 to 1963. When it was time for successors to these two models, there was only one version, the W113 Mercedes 230 SL, known as the "Pagoda." There were both 250 SL and 280 SL versions produced from 1963 to 1971.

So, in April 1971, it was time for the Pagoda's successor, the R107 Mercedes 350 SL with a 3.5L V8 engine producing 200 hp. Both safety and technology, as well as handling, were significantly improved over its predecessor. In 1973, the 450 SL with 225 hp was introduced, primarily for the U.S. market. For the 1974 model year, they also offered a six-cylinder variant again. There were some minor changes over the years, and the last model year was 1989 when it was time for the next generation, the R129.

From being nicknamed the "Pizza Racer" and the "Dallas Moped," the R107 has now taken its place on the podium for classic Mercedes sports cars and proudly bears the SL emblem.

As usual, open-top cars have received most of the attention. This is primarily because after the Gullwing, no covered model followed. Of course, the various models had a hardtop option if desired, but when they launched the R107 in 1971, they also introduced a coupe version six months later, the C107 or SLC, which had a fixed roof. Sometimes overlooked, but over the years, it has gained more and more enthusiasts and fans. It became a stylish Grand Tourer with a rear seat and otherwise the same technology as the open-top version. In total, 62,888 units of the C107 were produced.
