"The Mercedes model W112 was an impressive and solid luxury vehicle from the 60s that had everything extra. Description

This vehicle was reportedly imported in 2004 from California to Norway, and later came to Sweden in 2010. The current owner acquired the car in September 2012.

A W112 was equipped with exceptional technology and luxury features. This model includes extensive chrome fittings, a silky smooth six-cylinder engine with mechanical injection from Bosch, a smooth four-speed automatic transmission, power steering, and disc brakes all around. It also features air suspension with level control at the rear, and a thermostat-controlled fan. The interior boasts luxurious leather and wood, a power sunroof, power antenna, power windows, etc.

Over the years, the current owner has prioritized functionality and reliable driving during the summer, undertaking maintenance on the injection system. All injectors have been cleaned in an ultrasonic bath, the cylinder head was removed and valves adjusted, a new alternator installed, a new water pump coupling, and a new thermal fan. The air suspension has been updated with new bellows all around, and the level regulator has been refurbished. Both the steering and brake servos have been updated.

The car comes with an instruction manual, workshop manuals, and other literature. It is insured by MHRF with a battery isolator and a fire extinguisher.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car starts easily and performed well in terms of engine and drivetrain. It was stable and composed in traffic and is reported to perform very well in highway driving. Much of the technology has been revised in recent years, which was noticeable. The power steering is somewhat soft, typical for vehicles of that era. The car hasn't been checked on a lift, but from what could be seen, the vital parts looked good. Since it was driven in California and as an enthusiast car after moving to Scandinavia, it should have held up well. However, as a 60-year-old vehicle, there may be details that need attention.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is in good condition with a mix of updates and original features. The carpets are newer, the wood details have been re-stained, but the leather upholstery is in beautifully patinated and lovely original condition. The seats and rear bench have good support. There is some wear on the headliner. The radio, clock, and the electric function of the right rear side window do not work, likely due to oxidation on connections or another electrical issue. As for the window, the problem could be electrical or mechanical.

  • Exterior condition:

It has been repainted before leaving the USA, uncertain when. Now in a lighter shade than the original. However, the trunk lid has been repainted recently. With that said, the paint is still in good condition, but there are stone chips, scratches, small cracks, and areas of unevenness, such as around the wheel arch. Chrome, glass, and rubber details have signs of wear, some rubber seals are newer and in fine condition. Rims and tires (Galaxy) are on the same level as the rest of the car. Engine and luggage compartments are in good condition. Tight and well-functioning sunroof.

  • General condition:

There are details to update and refine, but much has been maintained and addressed in recent years, particularly with a focus on functionality. Absolute quality, cutting-edge technical solutions, and exclusive equipment make this premium coupe from Mercedes-Benz a highly interesting vehicle for enthusiasts and collectors. A true classic from the 60s, it represents some of the best that was available in a standard-built vehicle.

Facts about the model

Throughout history, Mercedes has produced many fine coupé cars, including when the W111 model was manufactured from 1960-1971. As early as 1961, a coupé model designed by Paul Bracq was released, which, unlike the sedan models, did not have fins but instead featured lowered rear fenders. The development then followed the other models through the 250 SE and 280 SE. Not to be outdone, an even more luxurious version was introduced, the model W112. It was manufactured from 1961 to 1967. The two-door versions, Coupé and Cabriolet, were produced from 1962 to 1967. The W112 featured a 300 SE engine with an alloy block, which in 1967 produced 170 horsepower. Additionally, it included features like air suspension, an automatic transmission, and disc brakes as standard. The interior was more luxurious, and the body featured more chrome than the W111 model. In total, 3,127 units of the two-door versions were manufactured, of which, reportedly, 253 units were of the 1967 model year.
