"Beautifully restored 1950s Taunus. There is not much to remark on. Lubrication or replacement of the speedometer cable will be the task for the future owner. The car has passed inspection and is ready to be driven."

Description

This car was restored by the previous owner, an elderly man from Hallsberg. He purchased the car in 2016 and spent over a year restoring it. The car had been brought to a scrapyard in 2010, but the staff couldn't bear to scrap it due to its rarity and the fact that it wasn't completely rusted through, as is often the case. The restoration process began in 2016, and today the car is in very good condition. We especially appreciate the attractive 1950s color.

The car underwent inspection and was approved by the vehicle inspection authority on May 17, 2017. It is now exempt from regular inspections under vintage vehicle regulations.

The car has been in the current owner's family since 2018. They have decided to sell the car because the owner has other enthusiast vehicles and feels it's a shame to have this car sitting unused.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The previous owner has completely overhauled the car mechanically, including an engine rebuild and brake restoration.

It starts easily and produces the correct sound. The car runs smoothly and shifts smoothly through the gears. It is equipped with a straight four-cylinder overhead valve engine of 1.5 liters, along with a 3-speed manual transmission operated through a steering column shifter. The speedometer needle jumps a little while driving. We believe this may be due to a worn speedometer cable, which should be a straightforward fix if necessary.

  • Interior condition:

The interior features the original upholstery. The headliner is in good condition, with only minor stains near the edges. The car has attractive rubber floor mats. There is visible wear on the seats, with some repairs made as shown in the pictures.

The trunk space is nicely maintained, with the original rubber mat intact. The spare wheel is fitted with period-appropriate diagonal tires.

  • Exterior condition:

The car has undergone a very well-executed professional paint job, displaying a high level of craftsmanship. Before the painting process, a layer of stone chip protection has been applied underneath the sills, which may deviate from the original design. However, this does not detract from the overall appearance. The chrome parts are in excellent condition, and the bright moldings are in fine shape. New tires were installed in 2017.

  • General condition:

The car was restored by the previous owner between 2016 and 2017. It leaves a highly favorable overall impression and is ready for vintage car gatherings or enjoyable outings.

Facts about the model

The Ford Taunus P1 was produced by German Ford from 1952 to 1962 and was available as both the 12M and 15M models. The introduction of the P1 was a significant event, as it marked Ford's first new European car after the war, and its USA-influenced self-supporting pontoon body design became a trendsetter.

In 1955, the first facelift occurred, replacing the split grille with a single-piece design. The model continued to be produced with minor visual changes until 1962.
