Description

This chassis was delivered to a bodybuilder, presumed to be Klippan Kaross AB. It was then delivered to a Lantmännen store in Skåne and served as a service vehicle for a Gulf station. The current owner purchased the car in 1976 and had it renovated with the help of a good friend who had an auto workshop. 15 years ago, it was taken to Skottorps Billackering, where it received a new paint job that still looks great today. A stainless steel exhaust system was also installed. Since the renovation, the Volvo has always been stored in a garage and driven sparingly during the summer, accumulating approximately 40 000 km, which is why all the wood and sheet metal are in excellent condition.

  • General condition:

A very well-preserved delivery chassis that is worth preserving in this excellent condition. It could also serve as a charming advertisement platform for a company.

Facts about the model

Volvo's delivery chassis PV 445 was introduced as a complement to the already existing PV 444 model. Previous Volvo models allowed for free customization using delivery chassis, and there was a demand for the new PV 444 model. The difference was that the previous Volvo cars were built on a frame construction, whether they were passenger cars or light trucks. The PV 444 (sedan model) was designed with a self-supporting body, so a separate frame construction was made for the intended delivery chassis, the PV 445 chassis. They were delivered as rolling chassis with the front structure up to the dashboard, after which the builder chose the design for the remaining body. Most bodies were handcrafted using sheet metal or aluminum over a wooden frame for vans, light trucks, or convertibles. Many cabins for the light trucks were kept short to increase the loading space of the cargo bed. Volvo's body parts, such as doors, were sometimes used to complete the vehicle. There were many manufacturers and a wide variety of models. In the spring of 1952, Volvo had 1,500 unsold delivery chassis. The decision to manufacture their own panel van was made, and on July 4, 1953, the first Duett was delivered. Sales of delivery chassis declined as many people chose the spacious Duett, which was "two in one." The last frame intended for free customization was produced in 1962. The cars were assigned model years based on when they were completed, which explains why some chassis numbers may overlap with different model years.
