Description

Registered in Sweden in June 1980, with its first owner in October of the same year. The car has had just over ten owners, and the odometer reading of 89 300 km is reportedly on its second lap, so it's likely the car has covered 189 300 km. The current owner, a well-known figure in the enthusiast community, acquired the car in 2021. They have replaced the shock absorbers all around and serviced the car with oil and filters, driving it sparingly during the summer months and keeping it in the garage otherwise. A newer Pioneer stereo has been installed, and the car features an electric sunroof, power windows, power seats, and effective air conditioning. It also has a tow hitch. The car has passed a recent inspection and is ready to be driven.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

Starts easily and runs smoothly. Not inspected underneath on a lift, but it seems to be in good condition. According to reports, everything is said to be functioning well.

  • Interior condition:

The interior is in good, slightly weathered condition, with nice door panels, carpets, and headliner. The seats and rear bench provide comfortable seating.

  • Exterior condition:

Nice paintwork, likely in its original form, as well as the vinyl roof. There are instances of paint chips, stone chips, and minor scratches. There's a small piece missing from the side trim between the driver's door and the wheel well. The glass has a few minor stone chips but is generally in good condition. Chrome accents are in good condition. The wheels look nice, and the tires are in good shape. The engine compartment and the trunk are in good condition.

  • General condition:

It remains largely in its original form, displaying a charming patina and mild wear. It's a relatively unaltered vehicle from the era when American cars still retained the look and image of their heyday during the 50s and 60s. An intriguing classic to cherish.

Facts about the model

The model version Chevrolet Malibu was introduced as a top-line version of the Chevelle in 1964. It was a mid-size car for the American standards of that time. It got its name from the affluent coastal region of Malibu in California. Malibu was used from 1964 to 1983, and then it was revived again from 1997 onwards. In its initial iteration, it was rear-wheel-drive vehicles, and upon its comeback in 1997, it became front-wheel-drive. Starting from the 2016 model year, they entered the ninth generation.

The fourth generation, which arrived in 1978 and became the last in its initial run, was available as a 2-door coupe, 4-door sedan, and 5-door station wagon. The engine was located at the front, and the power was sent to the rear wheels. The cars were just under five meters long. With this generation, they adopted the Malibu model name from Chevelle and it was now not just a trim level. The model had two equipment versions: Malibu and Malibu Classic. The coupe version also received the "Landau" designation with a vinyl top. There were V6 engines ranging from 200 cubic inches to V8 engines at 350 cubic inches (165 hp). As was customary in the USA at that time, the cars could be equipped according to preference, taste, and needs.

A total of over 1.5 million Malibus were manufactured in the fourth generation. Initially using the A-platform from 1978 to 1981. When the upgraded G-platform arrived, the coupe version was discontinued. During the years 1978-1981, 345,956 Coupe Landau models were produced. In fact, there was also an El Camino version (pickup) based on the same design. It was built until 1987. Well, it's not always easy to keep up with the twists and turns of GM's production of brands, models, and equipment packages. Nonetheless, during the 60s to 80s, the Malibu had a slightly luxurious and glamorous aura and is still appreciated today.
