Description

The Vectra 4x4 Turbo was a hidden gem in Opel's lineup. During its production of just under two years, only 2,252 units of this high-end model were built. Its performance was impressive, boasting 205 horsepower from its 2-liter engine, with a top speed of 245 km/h and a 0-100 km/h time of 6.8 seconds. It was not offered in Sweden, and this particular car was imported in 1998. It has had two owners, both residing in Lycksele. The first owner used it as a daily driver, while the current owner, who acquired the car in 2013, has treated it more as a collector's item. Some older service records from Germany are still available, along with a few inspection reports.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine, known as the C20LET, delivers 205 horsepower and is mated to a 6-speed F28 transmission. It runs quietly and free from vibrations. The timing belt, drive belt, water pump, and pulleys have been replaced. The brakes have been overhauled, and the hubs have been electro-zinc coated. The tires and rims were replaced in 2020; original wheels are not available. Recent upgrades include a new lambda sensor, new rear shock absorbers, and an exhaust system slightly more robust than the original. The original viscous coupling in the transfer case has been replaced with locking plates, resulting in permanent all-wheel drive engagement. This is a common modification for these cars when the viscous coupling has worn out. An electric antenna has been retrofitted but is not functioning.

  • Interior condition:

The interior has held up well considering its age and mileage. There are some minor imperfections, such as wear on the driver's seat side bolster and a small crack in the plastic on the gear lever. A period-correct Philips radio has been installed; the original radio is available but does not work. The trunk is in good condition with some stains on the carpet and scratches on the threshold plastic trim. A spare tire is included, and the original jack and wheel nut tool are still available.

  • Exterior condition:

It boasts an attractive dark blue metallic color. The paint has acquired some stone chips and scratches, primarily on the plastic details. A section at the front has been repainted. The body kit is intact and complete, with a new plastic strip between the rear lights (NOS). The windshield was replaced in 2010, and the front fog lights have developed a few cracks. The wheels are in excellent condition, replaced in 2020 (BBS replicas) with new tires. The only rust that has appeared on the car is in the rear fender edges and a spot in the spare tire well. Apart from that, it is essentially rust-free and very clean underneath.

  • General condition:

The owner refers to it as an upgraded daily driver, and one would probably agree. On the positive side, it's a very rare model that has held up well both in terms of rust and its overall mechanical condition.

Facts about the model

The Opel Vectra was introduced in October 1988, and from January 1989, it was available with all-wheel drive. In September 1993, they took it up a notch with the Vectra 4x4 Turbo. This version featured a 2-liter engine with 16 valves and dual camshafts paired with a six-speed gearbox. With a price tag of 54,980 German Marks, it was twice the cost of a regular Vectra 2.0i – in fact, it was more expensive than the luxurious Senator. The Turbo 4x4 was only sold in Germany, Austria, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom. It was an exclusive edition, with only 2,252 units produced from September 1992 to July 1994.
