Description

This car was purchased new by the current owner's aunt's husband in 1985 and was driven very sparingly, mostly during the summer, until 1995 when it was stored in a dry and moisture-free location. The current owner took over the car in 2010, and at that time, a major service was performed including changing all fluids and belts, new tires, and an overhaul of the brakes. Since then, he has used it very sparingly during the summer.

Facts about the model

The Honda Prelude is a car model manufactured by the Japanese vehicle and engine manufacturer Honda. The model was introduced on November 24, 1978, and was produced until 2001 in a total of 5 generations. It is a coupe model of American design that was originally small in size but grew somewhat with the generational changes. The first generation was based on the then-current first generation of the Honda Accord, which among other things lent its engine, braking system, and the individual wheel suspensions with struts all around, placed in a newly designed sportier chassis with a wheelbase 60 mm shorter than the contemporary Accord. The kinship is visually more apparent in the second generation, which in turn lent the design of its front with pop-up headlamps to the contemporary Accord in the USA. Technically, it was usually the Prelude that offered the most advanced technology, and with the third generation, a system for automatic steering of the rear wheels called 4WS was also offered, which facilitates parallel parking and improves tracking at higher speeds. The last model received a very costly chassis with independent wheel suspension with double wishbones.

At its launch, the Prelude was used by Honda to introduce the Japanese dealership chain Honda Verno, and the model series shortly thereafter began to be marketed internationally. Prelude aimed to compete with other Japanese coupe models such as the Toyota Celica, Nissan Silvia, and Mitsubishi Eclipse. When the Prelude series was discontinued in 2001, it was replaced by the Honda Integra DC5, which was intended to replace both the Integra and Prelude series with a common model series.

The name Prelude (from the Latin "preludium", meaning introduction) had been trademarked by the car manufacturer Toyota, which however graciously transferred it to Honda. Prelude was the first car model from Honda in a series of cars named after musical terms, followed by Quintet (called Quint in some markets, also based on technology from the Accord series), Concerto, and Ballade. In terms of size, the model is positioned between the Honda Accord Coupe and the Honda Legend Coupe.
