"A nice and very well-preserved little car that still retains much of its “new car feel.” Completely original, with an exterior and interior in equally fine condition, as well as excellent mechanical functionality. Everything works just as it was intended in 1985."

Description

This car was first registered for road use on August 13, 1985, and its first owner was an elderly man who drove it sparingly and maintained it meticulously. When he stopped driving, the Honda dealer Rune in Habo—who had originally sold the car—bought it back in October 2001 and used it as a showroom vehicle. It received extra attention when a new generation of the Civic was launched.

The third owner, a youngtimer enthusiast, acquired the car in April 2023 and owns several low-mileage cars. The car has never been driven in winter and has always been stored in a garage. It remains completely original with only 58,560 kilometers on the odometer.

The current owner replaced the tailgate gas struts in 2023. It also received a new stereo and speakers in 2024—a Blaupunkt unit with a retro look and Bluetooth—as well as new tires in 2024.

The car comes with a binder of original documents, various receipts and literature, as well as inspection reports verifying the mileage. Two sets of keys are included.

The car is inspected and ready to drive.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Starts easily and the engine runs smoothly and quietly. During a short test drive in a residential area, everything—including steering, clutch, gear changes, road handling, and brakes—was found to function well. The car has not been inspected on a lift, but from what could be seen, the underside appeared to be in good condition. It has been rust-proofed, not driven in winter, and there have been no remarks from inspections. There are also some photos of the underbody taken by the current owner some time ago that support this assessment.

  • Interior condition

It smells like new inside, and the textiles, seats, and rear bench retain their original character and comfort. The door panels, trim, headliner, and carpets are all in fine condition. Original protective mats are present. The steering wheel, controls, dashboard, and gauges are in excellent original condition. All electrical functions work flawlessly. Fitted with a newer Blaupunkt stereo. Both the rear seat and the luggage compartment appear virtually unused.

  • Exterior condition

Nice and glossy original paint in Greek White, with only a few minor stone chips and a very small dent. The glass, trim, and lighting details are in similar condition. Attractive wheels fitted with newer Kumho tires. The engine bay and luggage compartment are also in very good condition.

  • General condition

The Honda Civic is one of the great success stories in automotive history, and this car is not only a testament to why, but also an interesting classic and enthusiast vehicle thanks to its history and its relatively unique condition.

Facts about the model

The Honda Civic began as a small, compact, and economical hatchback model and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2022, with over 27 million cars produced. The first generation was introduced in the summer of 1972 and was built until 1979. With its soft and compact design, it became a popular small car. In Sweden, many may remember Honda advertising the car with two-meter-tall basketball players from Alvik Basket—who could also fit inside it. Globally, the slogan was: “We take you where you want to go.” The engine was a 1,169 cc four-cylinder unit that could run on both leaded and unleaded fuel. Thanks to its groundbreaking CVCC engine, no catalytic converter was needed, as the efficient combustion cycle met the new, stricter emissions regulations on its own.

By the time the third generation was introduced for the 1984–1987 model years, the design had become more angular, in line with 1980s styling trends. This generation saw the launch of the sporty CRX model as well as a taller wagon version called the Shuttle. It also became possible to order four-wheel drive and a six-speed manual gearbox. Engine options included 1.3- and 1.5-liter units, with the CRX model producing up to 160 hp. Most buyers, however, chose the simple, practical, and economical three-door hatchback with a 1.3-liter engine producing 71 hp. Both then and now, Honda has been known for its build quality and reliability. When the third generation was introduced, it was named Car of the Year in Japan.

Today, the Honda Civic is in its eleventh generation.
