Description
The current owner, who inherited the scooter in 2013, met Höjerdal already in 1981 and recalls that the scooter was not used very much from that time onwards—it was mostly kept indoors. In 1993, the scooter received a new paint job in its original color with a clear coat at Car Paint in Solna. After that, it was used very sparingly.
The last approved inspection was carried out on May 24, 1995, and the scooter is being sold without a current inspection. Once a new inspection has been completed following a review and replacement of necessary parts, this will be a proud representative of the Vespa Super Sport 180 model on the vintage metal scooter scene.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
After some basic attention, it started and the engine sounds good. The throttle tube is stiff and needs a new cable, as well as cleaning and lubrication inside the handlebar housing. A general replacement of all cables is also recommended.
Surprisingly good feel in the engine and clutch despite the period of inactivity, and the exhaust also feels solid. The brakes require an overhaul, especially the foot brake—here too, cleaning, adjustment, and lubrication are needed. Furthermore, all small rubber components on the engine are dry and cracked, although the air hose to the carburetor still feels flexible. -
Exterior condition
Attractive red paint that has held up very well since the respray in the 1990s. Good condition stainless steel, chrome, aluminum, and foot strips. Some overpainted nuts. Older tires with good tread, though they should of course be replaced due to age. A small tear in the rear corner of the seat. Keys are missing for the steering lock, glove compartment, and storage compartment, but the locks are relatively easy to replace. Lights and brake lights function properly.

General condition
A well-functioning SS180 with inspection, presented in a neat and attractive condition. A new owner eager to ride as soon as possible should go through the technical aspects—service the brakes, change the gearbox oil, fit new tires, and carry out an inspection.
The stand also needs adjustment at its stop due to repeated kick-starting with the stand down (a common issue). This pushes down the stop, causing the stand angle to become too wide, making the scooter unstable when parked. For those seeking originality, replacing the grips and trim with grey items would enhance the correct original appearance.

Facts about the model
The original engine design was retained, but the crankshaft was modified and was no longer of full-circle design. It had a piston pin with a diameter of 16 mm, allowing for the use of a connecting rod bearing instead of a brass bushing. By fitting a 62 mm piston and a 60 mm stroke crank, the displacement increased to 180 cc. This boosted power by around 10%, and the SS 180 became the first Vespa model to reach the 100 km/h mark.
Trivia: : The Super Sport was never officially offered on the German market, possibly indicating a lack of demand for sport models at the time, but more likely because the abbreviation “SS” still carried strong associations with the WWII era.
