"An exciting car that has been given the “full package.” Not for someone seeking a calm ride in an untouched original, but perfect for those who want to drive and truly experience Saab’s performance and racing spirit. A fine and thrilling car that has been thoroughly gone through by an engine enthusiast."

Description

This car was first registered for road use on May 15, 2003, and is a 9-3 S 2.0T Polaris. The current owner acquired it in July 2020. By then, it had already been upgraded with a 2.3-liter 9-5 Aero B235R engine, producing around 270–280 hp with bi-fuel programming. It had also been fitted with an original Viggen interior in blue and black, an Aero steering wheel, and carbon fiber trim. Additionally, an Aero/Viggen body kit with a Viggen rear wing had been installed.

In 2021, the new owner—a Saab enthusiast trained in bodywork and paint—had the added exterior components repainted. The brakes were upgraded to Aero-spec discs (308 mm front, 286 mm rear). A new Viggen clutch kit and release bearing were installed, along with a new rear main seal during the clutch replacement. A steering rack clamp was fitted to reduce flex in the rack-and-pinion steering. New rear control arms with polyurethane bushings were installed, along with H and R lowering springs. The car was also fitted with BBS Challenge wheels with 235/35-19 tires and a stainless steel exhaust system from the catalytic converter and back.

In 2022, the left rear quarter panel was repainted after the antenna hole was welded shut due to interference with the Viggen wing. The front fenders and hood were also repainted due to stone chips. All work was carried out by the owner, who has 20 years of experience, including work with BMW and Volvo. The same year, a new Sony double-DIN stereo was installed along with JBL speakers in the doors and parcel shelf.

In 2023, the front seats were refurbished by ColorGlo in Haninge, and a Rockford Fosgate subwoofer and amplifier were installed.

In 2024, the AC system was serviced.

In 2025, both rear quarter panels, all doors, and the trunk lid were repainted due to scratches and minor dents, and to achieve a uniform finish. This work was carried out by a professional painter working with Porsche. The car also received original stone chip protection on the rear wheel arch extensions and new protective coating on the sills. The handbrake cables were replaced, along with new rear calipers and pads. The SID (on-board computer) and AC displays were also refurbished.

The odometer now reads 142,600 km. The car has recently been serviced with new spark plugs, oil filter, and GM engine oil. This service has been carried out annually regardless of mileage by the current owner, who has only driven the car during the summer months.

The car comes with original manuals, service booklet, and two sets of keys.

Inspected and ready to drive.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Starts easily and the engine runs well. During a short test drive, everything was perceived to function properly, and the car delivered strong performance when accelerating. Steering, clutch, gear changes, and road holding all felt good, although the ride is firmer and slightly harsher than a standard car—intentionally so, for improved handling.

Not inspected on a lift, but what could be seen of the vital components appeared to be in good condition. No remarks from inspections.

  • Interior condition

A fine and complete upgraded interior with good comfort in both the seats and rear bench. The door panels, trim, headliner, and carpets are all in good condition. Additional protective floor mats are included. The steering wheel, controls, dashboard, and gauges are in good shape, and all electrical and instrument functions work properly. The AC blows cold, and the sound system delivers good audio quality.

  • Exterior condition

A nice paint finish that has been refreshed in recent years. The glass, trim, lighting details, and other exterior elements are in good condition. Newer BBS wheels with good tires. The engine bay and luggage compartment are in good condition.

  • General condition

A great deal of time and money has been invested to give this car a striking appearance and strong performance. It also reflects its era, when body kits, wings, wide wheels and tires, and powerful sound systems were all the rage around the turn of the millennium. It’s not just untouched original cars that serve as time capsules—this one also captures its period and stands as a classic and enthusiast car for those who want more and appreciate performance and flair.

Facts about the model

With the Saab 9-3, Saab adopted the naming style already used for the 9-5. The new 9-3 model was a further development of the Saab 900, which had been introduced for the 1993 model year.

The first generation of the 9-3, produced between 1998 and 2003, was essentially a facelift of the earlier 900 model. It featured redesigned bumpers, a new grille, and a revised rear end, partly inspired by the larger 9-5. The chassis and crash safety were also improved. Body styles included three- and five-door hatchbacks, as well as a popular convertible. In addition, a high-performance special version—the Viggen—was introduced. The 9-3 became a fairly popular mid-size car, appreciated for being both practical and enjoyable to drive, with good handling and classic Saab character.
