"Very fine renovation that stands up well today. Practical and functional sports tourer for excursions and family driving."

Description

This car is registered for traffic in Sweden on 11 May 1990. The early history is not known, but during the 1980s it was restored in Switzerland and England. It then came to Sweden in the early 1990s and was owned by a well-known car collector in Skellefteå. The current owner, a renowned figure in automotive history circles for many years, acquired the car in February 2009 and it has since been part of his extensive private collection. The seller and Bilwebauctions chose for logistical reasons to leave the vehicle in the collection during inspection and photography.

The car comes with various period-correct attributes and documentation.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Started up for sale but not driven in several years. When it was driven into the garage, everything functioned faultlessly according to information.

  • Interior condition

Fine and charming interior with cognac-coloured leather. Dashboard in beautiful wood and beautiful and reportedly functioning Jaeger instruments.

  • Exterior condition

Fine older paint with beautiful wire wheels and older tyres. Headlights, radiator/grille, bumpers etc in fine chrome. Nice tonneau cover to stretch over frame.

  • General condition

The current owner has always maintained, serviced and kept his treasures in fine and working condition. This car is no exception. After an extended period of rest, a thorough inspection is recommended but the condition and basic mechanics bode well for a smooth process.

Owner's comment

Our father has always been an enthusiastic motor historian and over the years many fine and well-maintained vehicles have passed through his collection. He has always looked after them, serviced and maintained them in excellent and roadworthy condition. It has been a way of life and a multitude of friends, vehicles and memories he and we as a family carry with us. Now it is time for the next chapter for us and the vehicles in the collection.

Facts about the model

MG Morris Garages was started by W.R. Morris. He first sold bicycles and then cars. From 1913 he manufactured cars under his own name, Morris Motor Company. At the same time he retained Morris Garages as a separate company and from 1924 he sold Morris cars with tuned engines and special coachwork as M.G. cars.

During the 1930s a number of different models were produced which were named as letter types, including the J-type and P-type. The PA arrived in 1934 with a more robust chassis than its predecessor the J-type and featured an engine of 847 cc producing 36 bhp. It was offered as a two-seat Roadster, a four-seat Tourer and an unusual Airline Coupé in a fastback body. The following year, 1935, W.R. Morris sold MG to the Nuffield Organisation. In 1968 MG then became part of British Leyland and 1980 was the end. Although the marque lived on with Rover and later BMW, but 2005 was the end once again. Now however Nanjing Automobile Group has dusted off the name MG again. But that is a completely different story.
