Description

To be called "Runabout" suggests that this a car for pure pleasure driving, and it really is a fun vehicle to drive. It has an early British history with its RHD configuration and the car is most likely to have been assembled and sold as new in the UK. There's also plenty of brass plaquettes confirming its former British classic car history. It was brought over from England to Sweden in 1978 and was carefully refined over the years. The current owner bought it in 2012.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The engine comes from a later car, probably from 1920. This in turn means that there are mounting points for an electric starter motor, which was introduced on the 1919 model. It really is a procedure to start the car after a longer standstill. Sometimes it helps to pour some petrol in the cylinders and sometimes even a push start. Cranking the engine by hand is a lot easier when the machinery has reached operating temperature. This car has both battery and magnetic ignition, it can be started on both. Furthermore, the gearbox has been refurbished by the current owner and the brakes have been handed with space age technology, namely brake shoes of Kevlar. If you feel bad about such modern features our best advice is to simply ignore this fact.

  • Interior condition:

For obvious design reasons, the interior is partially integrated with the car's exterior, but the leatherette seat, wood and brass steering wheel and all other details means that a Model T novice enthusiast can sit back and quietly discover new and exciting things on the car. The single seat in the rear allows for three people to travel in the car, but as a passenger in that back seat one needs to hold on to something when hitting the bumps at the cruising speed of 60 km/h.

  • Exterior condition:

Back in the days it was not really the shining of the car's paintwork that caught the eye, it was all the polished brass parts. Together with those wooden details it all ads up to almost a yachting feeling. The soft top, the wooden spoked wheels and all the rest makes for a beautiful exterior impression. This also goes for the front and rear suspension which are conviniently exposed for viewing.

  • General condition:

An early Model T, the oldest car in the Kronoberg county region in southern Sweden, according to the owner. Cars like these do deserve a more active life than simply hanging around as a museum object. It requires some skills, but the burden of that sort of knowledge is easy to carry.
