Description
The full specification is listed on a handwritten note included among the photos.
The Amazon is now being returned to its original engine, rebuilt to a much milder specification. That engine is currently at the machine shop, leaving the engine bay empty for the time being.
The owner therefore hopes this well-specced B20 will find a new home—whether for the road, spirited driving, or historic racing.

Condition
-
Mechanical condition
The engine has not been started in our presence, but the owner states that it ran flawlessly and pulled strongly before it was removed from the car.
Everything shown in the photos is included in the sale, including the twin Weber 45 carburettors, fuel pump, and exhaust system. -
Exterior condition
There's no show-quality finish on the outside—the inside is what counts. There's plenty of eye candy available for these engines, and the next owner can add that if desired.
Facts about the model
A cast-iron inline four-cylinder with pushrods and a five-bearing crankshaft, the B20 was developed directly from the B18 architecture. By increasing the bore from 84.1 mm to 88.9 mm while retaining the 80 mm stroke, displacement grew to 2.0 litres (1,986 cc), delivering improved torque and stronger acceleration.
The engine debuted in 1969 in the Amazon, the 140 Series and the 1800S. When the Volvo 240 was launched in the autumn of 1974, entry-level models continued to use the B20. Passenger-car production finally ended in 1976 when the more modern overhead-cam B21 took over completely.
Beyond passenger cars, the B20 saw extensive service as a Volvo Penta marine engine (marketed as the AQ115 and AQ130) and became a favourite in motorsport.
The B20 earned its legendary reputation through exceptional mechanical durability. It is not uncommon for well-maintained examples to cover more than 500,000 kilometres (310,000 miles) without requiring major engine work.
