Condition
-
Mechanical condition
The engine starts easily and runs smoothly. The automatic transmission shifts as it should. The climate control blows cold, and other electrical features—including the active suspension, power windows, power-adjustable driver's seat, audio system, power mirrors, and windshield wipers—are all functioning properly. However, the traction and stability control deactivation functions have not been tested.
-
Interior condition
The interior is in good condition. The door panels, dashboard, and carpets are all well preserved. The driver's seat is the only area showing more significant wear; the left side bolster of the seatback has seen the most use, and part of the leather stitching has come undone. There are a few minor marks on the headliner, and the center console has some scratches consistent with normal use.
-
Exterior condition
A well-preserved car that still retains its paintwork in good condition. No rust was found on the body during documentation, although there are some stone chips on the hood, front end, and windshield. A few light surface scratches are present on the right front fender, and there is a small paint blemish on the right rear quarter panel. The alloy wheels have some scratches and minor corrosion.
-
General condition
A well-maintained Volvo V70 R that is ready to be enjoyed by its next owner.

Facts about the model
The five-cylinder engine was based on Volvo's well-known T5 powerplant but featured a longer stroke, increasing displacement. While the T5 used a Mitsubishi turbocharger, the R models were equipped with a larger KKK turbo running up to 1.0 bar of boost. Combined with twin intercoolers and continuously variable valve timing (CVVT), the result was an impressive 300 hp. According to Volvo, the V70 R accelerated from 0–100 km/h (0–62 mph) in just 5.9 seconds.
Stopping power came from Brembo aluminum brake calipers paired with ventilated brake discs, while the all-wheel-drive system was electronically controlled for optimal traction. The R models also featured unique leather upholstery with more heavily bolstered seats for improved support. Buyers could choose between a six-speed manual transmission or a five-speed automatic.
Visually, the V70 R distinguished itself from the standard V70 with a lower-mounted grille framed in matte silver, larger front air intakes, and a more pronounced front spoiler.
The V70 R and S60 R went on sale in the spring of 2003, with Volvo initially expecting annual production of around 7,000 units. Demand, however, fell well short of expectations. According to production data compiled by the Nordic R club with assistance from Volvo, only 9,060 V70 Rs were built through the end of production in 2007. After that, Volvo discontinued the R performance models, replacing them with the R-Design line, which focused primarily on sporty styling rather than increased performance.
More than 20 years later, that limited production is increasingly seen as one of the model's greatest strengths. Its rarity, combined with its distinctive engineering and performance pedigree, gives the V70 R all the ingredients of a future collector's car.
