"A fine sports and GT car from the 70s in an exciting colour combination with a stylish interior and a pleasant sunroof. Recently serviced and inspected, which means it runs smoothly and nicely, but as with all cars that have been driven sparingly, it is always worthwhile to check over details. Good and solid history from the early 90s with plenty of documents and literature."

Description

This car was manufactured in August 1978 according to Porsche documentation and first registered for road use here on 16 May 1979. Listed by the Transport Agency as a Targa, which is incorrect – likely because it has a removable roof panel. Correspondence from 1995 between the then-owner and Porsche in Germany confirms it has the optional equipment: 650 electrical sliding roof. The two most recent owning families have owned it since 1993. The current owning family acquired it over 20 years ago from close friends. The gentleman was a dedicated car enthusiast with several classic vehicles in his garage and an active member of several clubs. The cars were always meticulously maintained and this car has received excellent care, been driven sparingly and always stored in a heated garage. Odometer reading 51,364 km but the original odometer was replaced at 49,901 km (included in sale), as the trip counter failed. According to documentation, the total mileage is 101,265 km. Service records and information from previous owners support this. In February, a full inspection and service was carried out at K3 Autocenter where, in addition to routine servicing, spark plugs, distributor and injectors etc. were attended to.

The car comes with extensive documentation collected in a folder containing receipts, correspondence, inspection reports, service records etc. Several boxes of useful spare parts and the original engine cover etc. are included. Porsche-related literature including workshop manuals are also included. Two sets of keys. A car cover is also included.

Inspected and ready to drive.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Starts easily and runs smoothly and steadily once warmed up. During a test drive on a minor country road, everything was experienced to function well such as steering, clutch, gearbox, road holding and brakes. As it ran somewhat unevenly, it was taken to a workshop last winter, where it has been serviced so that everything now works well.

Not inspected on a lift, but what could be seen looked good.

  • Interior condition

A fine and well-maintained special original interior in red/orange vinyl and orange textile with matching textile floor mats according to Porsche documentation designated "hummer/lobster". Seats in excellent condition with good comfort, the small rear seat likewise in excellent condition. Door panels, headliner and floor mats similarly in excellent condition. Steering wheel, controls, dashboard and gauges in excellent condition. Everything appears to function well. Side windows and side mirrors electrically operated. Functioning and tight electric sunroof. Functioning newer Blaupunkt stereo as well as likewise functioning Cargard car alarm. Protective floor mats.

  • Exterior condition

Paint in original Grand Prix white finish, which has been fully or partially repainted and looks glossy and fine. Glass, trim, emblems and lighting details in well-preserved condition. Headlight inserts with bright trim strips included, may be original. Fine Fuchs wheels and good Continental tyres. Tailgate with spoiler, original included.

  • General condition

Overall in original configuration with some details that have been updated, but for those seeking strict originality, there are all the possibilities to restore it to that. Functionally, it is in fine and well-working condition. These 70s models are sought-after and fine classic and enthusiast cars with both driving pleasure and traditional Porsche feel in details and overall.

Facts about the model

Porsche 911, a legend. Launched in 1963, initially as the 901 model, but that had to be quickly corrected when Peugeot revealed they had protected model designations with a zero in the middle. Either way, it became a success from the start. Ten years later, in September 1973, the 911 underwent the largest exterior update during its production run up to that point. New bumpers, adapted to meet US market regulations, changed the car's appearance, especially in combination with increasing numbers of chrome trim strips being replaced by black lacquered trim. The engine was enlarged once again, this time to 2.7 liters. The three base models were now called 911, 911S and 911 Carrera.

In autumn 1976, the Carrera model received a three-liter engine, and just one year later the entire 911 range was replaced by a single model, the 911 SC.

Throughout the rest of the seventies, Porsche invested its resources in the front-engined cars, while the 911 was left without updates. The intention was to eventually replace the old rear-engined model, but customers thought differently and demand remained high. Following changes in company management in autumn 1980, Porsche decided to listen to its customers and once again invest in the 911, and it is still here today.
