Description
The first documented owner in Sweden undertook a restomod project—restored and modified—and had the car registered as a modified vehicle in 2015. It is powered by a Chevrolet 305 V8 from the 1980s, paired with a GM TH350 automatic transmission and a Cadillac Fleetwood differential from 1976.
The front suspension is sourced from a more modern Buick, while the rear axle comes from a Cadillac. Front brakes have been adapted from a Chevrolet Astro van, complemented by calipers and a master cylinder from the American performance brake manufacturer Wilwood. At the rear, the car retains Cadillac drum brakes.
The most recent approved roadworthiness inspection was carried out on February 19, 2015.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
Easy to drive and uncomplicated in character, benefiting from a more modern engine and automatic transmission. The owner has fitted an electric cooling fan that runs continuously whenever the ignition is switched on, ensuring highly effective cooling. Beyond that, the car performs well on the road, with the chassis and brakes feeling well sorted and confidence-inspiring.
In its original specification, the Buick Business Coupé was powered by Buick’s straight-eight engine, known as the Dynaflash—a relatively uncommon engine configuration in passenger cars and one that contributed to the model’s distinctive character. -
Interior condition
The interior is clean and inviting, finished in a subtle grey across the seats, door panels, headliner, and the area behind the seats. Despite the addition of three auxiliary gauges and the automatic transmission selector, the cabin still retains a strong sense of original character and atmosphere.
-
Exterior condition
The exterior presents well and offers a highly usable, driver-friendly character. It is best described as being in honest, enjoyable condition rather than over-restored. The right front hubcap is missing, although the owner believes a replacement should be relatively easy to source. The car is fitted with older tires that still retain good tread depth.
-
General condition
A classic interpretation of the restored and modified philosophy as applied to an American automobile: dependable, brand-loyal mechanical components and user-friendly functionality combined with careful preservation of the original elegance of a much-admired body style. The choice of understated tires and standard-sized wheels with factory-style hubcaps contributes significantly to that authentic and well-balanced appearance.
