"An exceptionally attractive and enjoyable car to drive, performing very well on the road. The restoration has been carried out to a high standard, resulting in a flawless impression both inside and out."

Description

The car was meticulously restored several years ago and spent most of its life in France. The current owner purchased it there in this excellent condition in 2024. He then imported it to Sweden and registered it here, and has since driven it only sparingly during the summer months.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The car runs very well, and the mechanical brakes operate evenly and effectively. During the inspection, the exhaust manifold gasket began to leak, which will need to be addressed by the new owner. A new high-torque mini starter motor has been installed, but it is not yet perfectly adjusted and occasionally clicks when starting. The original starter motor is included and is in need of refurbishment. The car starts easily. The clock is not functioning, and there is a faint noise coming from the speedometer.

  • Interior condition

Interior in very good condition with minimal signs of wear. Professionally reupholstered during refurbishment, with all woodwork in excellent condition.

  • Exterior condition

Professionally refinished in a two-tone paint scheme, with nothing noteworthy to fault except for a couple of small rust bubbles on the lower edge of the trunk lid. Excellent chrome throughout, complemented by new tires mounted on attractive chrome wire wheels. The sunroof opens and closes smoothly without any issues.

  • General condition

A comfortable and easy-to-drive classic that is rarely seen on the roads today.

Facts about the model

The Jaguar Mark IV was a classic British automobile originally introduced in 1935 as the SS Jaguar by SS Cars Ltd. The designation “Mark IV” was applied retrospectively to distinguish it from the later Mark V model.

Available as a saloon, coupé, and drophead coupé, the Mark IV was renowned for its elegant pre-war styling, featuring an upright radiator grille, separate fenders, fine wood trim, and luxurious leather upholstery. It was offered with a range of engines, including a 1.5-litre four-cylinder and 2.5- and 3.5-litre six-cylinder units, providing strong performance at a competitive price.

During the Second World War, passenger car production ceased as the company's factories were converted to military manufacturing. Production resumed after the war, and in 1945 the company changed its name to Jaguar Cars, as the SS Cars name had become associated with the German SS organization.

The Mark IV remained in production until 1949 and was among the last Jaguar models to retain the marque’s traditional pre-war design. By the end of its production run, however, it was beginning to show its age technically compared with more modern post-war automotive designs.
