"From the era when British motorcycles ruled the roads."

Description

The Velocette MAC 350 is one of the most iconic British motorcycles of the post-war era. Produced by the renowned Velocette company in Birmingham between 1934 and 1960, it earned a reputation as a reliable, economical, and exceptionally well-built machine, equally suited to daily commuting and long-distance touring.

This particular example currently forms part of the owner's motorcycle collection. He acquired it in 2020, and the motorcycle was in running condition before being placed on display in his living room. The last roadworthiness inspection was carried out in 2004, meaning that the motorcycle will require inspection before it can be returned to road use.

Facts about the model

The Velocette MAC evolved from the earlier MOV 250 and was powered by a 349cc single-cylinder four-stroke engine. Despite its straightforward design, it was technically advanced for its era, not least because of Velocette’s highly regarded four-speed foot-operated gearbox, renowned for its precise and positive gear changes.

During the 1950s, the model was modernized with telescopic front forks, an aluminium cylinder and cylinder head, and a swingarm frame with rear suspension, all of which significantly improved ride comfort and road holding. The engine produced approximately 14–15 horsepower, delivered a top speed of around 120–125 km/h (75–78 mph), and earned a reputation for excellent fuel economy.

The MAC was never intended to be a sports motorcycle, but it became highly respected for its reliability, strong low-end torque, and smooth-running character. It was widely used by both commuters and long-distance riders throughout the United Kingdom.

Today, the Velocette MAC is a much-admired classic that, for many enthusiasts, embodies the essence of the traditional British motorcycle—simple, robust, dependable, and built for everyday use.
