Description
The current owner has mainly used the car during the summer months and always stored it properly in a garage over winter. It has not been driven much in recent years. The owner recently took the car for inspection where it failed on a rear wheel bearing, a simple fix, and the car also needs a new battery although it starts with a jump pack.
The best part is that the car does not suffer from any major rust issues. The bodywork and paint present well overall with only a few minor fixes needed around the trims and rubber spoiler sections, nothing serious. Both front seats would ideally need reupholstering, mainly around the bolster areas.
The car has not been heavily modified. It features a period style bodykit mainly consisting of side sills, rear valance, and 1980s style mirrors, while still retaining a largely original appearance.
Overall, with the inspection items sorted and a routine service carried out, the car will become inspection exempt forever. It can easily be enjoyed as it is for many years while improvements and small cosmetic fixes can be done over time.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
The car needs a new battery but starts fine with a jump starter. The engine runs very well with no strange noises or overheating. We kept the car running for around 40 minutes during the photoshoot with no issues at all.
Nimble and enjoyable to drive with a good working gearbox and solid brakes. To pass inspection both rear wheel bearings will need replacing. Fitted with a good set of alloy wheels showing some minor scuffs and usable tyres.
As the car has not been driven much over the past two years, it would benefit from a routine service and fresh fluids before regular use. -
Interior condition
The interior is complete and pleasingly simple with manual wind up windows and a proper spartan sports car cabin feel. Both front seats would need reupholstering due to wear on the bolsters, while the rear seats are in better condition with only a small rip on the seam of the left rear seat.
Door panels, trim, headliner, and carpets are all in good condition overall. The dashboard is complete with the original instrumentation and gauges. An older stereo is fitted and included. The dashboard top has some cracks as expected with age. The boot currently does not open as one of the catches is stuck and will need repairing. -
Exterior condition
Presentable car with good bodywork and no major rust issues standing out. The left front wing has a soft dent which could easily be straightened by a dent repair company. Paintwork remains bright with a few marks and scratches from normal use.
The frames around the windscreen and rear hatch window have previously been hand painted. The rubber trim around the spoiler would benefit from being refitted properly. Underneath appears solid overall with some rust around the front body seams and damage caused by incorrect jacking points over the years. -
General condition
This car is easily fixed to pass its final inspection, with the remaining jobs able to be done over time. A fun and usable summer classic at a very reasonable price.
