Condition
-
Mechanical condition
Starts easily and runs smoothly in the engine and drivetrain. Everything seems to work well, but there is a small water leak from a hose. The carburetor has been troublesome, but the car performed well during test drives. Not checked on a lift, but the underside looked good from what could be seen. Newer exhaust system. The vehicle inspection had no objections regarding the undercarriage.
-
Interior condition
The interior is in fine condition. Vinyl parts are original, while the textile has been replaced, similar to the original. Nice headliner, with a small dirt stain. Light vinyl has loosened and is slightly torn on the B-pillars. Instruments, steering wheel, and controls are in fine condition, and everything is functioning well.
-
Exterior condition
Newer paint job in good condition, with a small "door edge". The glossy plastic window trims are not as shiny anymore. Other details such as moldings, emblems, windows, lighting, etc., are in good condition with some signs of use. Good rims and newer tires.
-
General condition
This Karoliner Blue carriage is in good condition with newer paintwork and partially updated interior. The original feel is still present, making it a pleasant and cozy classic from the era of the welfare state.

Facts about the model
As with previous iterations, there were steady changes, both big and small. So, when it was all said and done, you could place an early 92 next to an 80s model and see that not a single part was the same, yet there was a clear resemblance.
In the mid-60s, the two-stroke engine was starting to show its age, and finally, for the 1967 model year, news of a new engine arrived. It was a 1.5-liter V4 engine with 73 spirited horses from Ford that had the honor of "pulling the load." This led to a resurgence in sales for the 96 and 95 models. Additionally, the model was modernized with front disc brakes, an alternator, a stronger starter motor, and a larger capacity battery. The interior was also upgraded, and three-point seat belts became standard. In the following years, there were even more upgrades, big and small. So, when it was time for the 1975 model year, Saab stated in their brochure, "We prefer not to change a successful car." For the model year, there was only a reinforced gearbox, black windshield wipers, and rear seat belts for certain markets.
In January 1980, it was the final chapter and the end of the 96 era. The last car to leave the assembly line, on January 8, was driven by Erik Carlsson to the Saab Museum in Trollhättan. The last cars were sold in the spring of 1980, with only 967 units registered in Sweden.
Altogether, according to information available, 547,221 units of the 96 were manufactured.
