"A wonderful-looking car, completed in late 2022 and enjoyed on the road ever since. Thanks to its dedicated owner, this remarkable Hudson was saved and brought back to life — a true piece of vintage motoring history."

Description

The owner bought the car through our auction back in 2018. It originally came from the now-closed car museum in Gillstad, outside Lidköping. As the pictures show, the Hudson was in parts and far from complete.

The owner was not fazed by the challenge. He has rebuilt and owns several other 1920s cars, and his purpose-built home workshop is equipped with industrial machinery. With a car like this, virtually nothing is available off the shelf, so many parts had to be carefully repaired, recreated or engineered by hand.

Project started in 2018 and was completed in late 2022, when the Hudson was re-registered and became inspection-exempt. When asked how many hours went into the project, the answer was simple: “Well over 2,500.”

Valuable help came from the Hudson club in the USA, providing diagrams, manuals and advice on specialist suppliers. Through the wider owner network and a great deal of research, many of the difficult-to-find mechanical parts were eventually sourced. Much of the bodywork and woodwork, however, had to be recreated and finished by hand.

So why sell it after putting in so much work? Quite simply, space is needed and another renovation project is already planned. Perhaps that is the clearest sign of a truly dedicated enthusiast — finishing one project only to make room for the next.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Easy to start once you have learned the correct starting procedure. The engine runs well, and once warmed up has a good, steady idle with no unusual noises. The gearbox, steering and brakes all work as they should, and the car has been driven and enjoyed every summer at local events.

During the renovation, virtually every mechanical and electrical component was reviewed and, where necessary, repaired, renovated, refitted or replaced. Now registered, inspection-exempt and ready for its next owner to enjoy.

  • Interior condition

Interior is in tip-top condition, having been completely rebuilt and renovated. The seats, door panels and side panels have all been reupholstered, together with a new fitted headliner. The dashboard, trim and gauges have also been renovated, and a new wooden floor has been fitted throughout.

  • Exterior condition

Body and chassis have been completely renovated. Although the car was reasonably complete, it still required an enormous amount of work, including repairing and recreating body panels and making a new wooden floor. Then came the glass, chrome, countless small details and finally the complete repaint — a mammoth task from start to finish. The bodywork was carried out by the owner himself, while the chrome and paintwork were completed by specialists.

Today the car looks fantastic. If I have to note anything, there is a crack in one of the rear light lenses and a few very minor paint blemishes — but that is about it.

  • General condition

This car may never have been saved if its current owner had not taken on the challenge. He is a true craftsman and enthusiast, and this renovation was done entirely for the pleasure of bringing the Hudson back to life — certainly not for profit. We should be thankful that people with this level of dedication still exist.

This is not a museum piece. It is a car that has been built to be driven and enjoyed, and it is ready to do exactly that. As an added bonus, the seller is happy to pass on his extensive knowledge of the car and offer support to its new owner.
