Beschreibung
Björn and subsequent owners belonged to the same group of friends who grew up around Billingsforsvägen in Stureby. In the summer of 1965, Olof took over the car from Björn, who had by then purchased a Volkswagen 1500. By that time, the car had begun to lose its original lustre, but it continued to be used and maintained. In 1966, Adolf underwent several improvements. The original non-synchromesh gearbox was replaced with a synchromesh unit, the braking system was refurbished with new drums, hydraulics and brake shoes. The car was also equipped with a fuel heater, an improved heating system and a modified electrical system to reduce voltage drop in the 6-volt system. The semaphore indicators were replaced and a cracked dashboard was substituted.
The car also attracted press attention and featured in an article in FIB Aktuellt in 1966 about people who still drove older cars.
One of the car's most memorable journeys was Olof and Ulla-Britt's honeymoon trip in the summer of 1969, when Adolf took them from Ljustorp, just north of Sundsvall, around all of southern Sweden. Later that same year, the car was damaged when Olof reversed into a tree in a beech forest in Scania. The decision was then to retire the car, and on 18 July 1969 it was deregistered and put away in a shed.
There Adolf sat untouched for almost 40 years.
In the summer of 2009, the thought arose to breathe life into the old Volkswagen once more. Together with the help of an experienced mechanic, work began to awaken the car from its slumber. After fitting new valve stems to the tyres and with considerable effort, the car was successfully removed from the shed. However, the initial attempts revealed that both the brakes and the mechanics needed attention after four decades at rest.
The car was transported to the workshop where the continuing restoration work could begin. The car underwent a comprehensive "nuts and bolts" restoration of the highest standard. After many hours of work, Adolf regained its mobility once again. At the first service, the odometer read 111,740 km and after the restoration, the car has only been driven sparingly, and today the odometer shows approximately 152,702 km, which means only around 13,000 km since its resurrection.
The Volkswagen Adolf is more than just an old Volkswagen – it is a piece of living history, shaped by family bonds, friendship, journeys and almost 40 years of rest before it returned to the roads.
Teknische Daten
Beurteilung Fahrzeugzustand
-
Zustand technisch
Runs well in the engine and drivetrain where everything including suspension, braking system, electrical system and other components have been restored to very good condition. The exception is the gearbox which has "only" been replaced with a synchronized unit. A few drops can be seen under the gearbox, see image. The clock does not work. Otherwise the mechanical components are in very good condition. The car has been restored without an eberspächer.
-
Zustand Interieur
The interior is in very good and carefully maintained condition. Much of the interior trim has been replaced and is of the highest quality. See photographs.
-
Zustand Exterieur
High-class professional paint finish. Glossy, even and perfectly applied. The underside is in very fine condition. The car's brightwork is also in very good condition, see pictures.
-
Zustand gesamt
High-class restoration where nothing has been left to chance! Here, considerable effort has been invested to achieve a very fine result, exhibition standard in nearly every respect, without rendering the car impractical through becoming "too perfect".

Fakten zum Modell
This 1950 model is very similar to the earliest VW cars and therefore has the highest collector value, as many details were changed in the following and subsequent years. This is a particularly fine collector's example, as evident from the description above.
