Pontiac Bonneville lanserades 1957 och byggdes sedan fram till 2005. 1959 kom andra generationen och fortsatte att vara Pontiacs Top of the Line. Med den nya karossgenerationen satte Pontiac historia genom att introducera sin välkända tvådelade grill.
Namnet Bonneville hämtades från Bonneville Salt Flats, ett ökenområde i Utah, USA, som under lång tid använts för att sätta hastighetsrekord med bilar och motorcyklar. En Bonneville hade det prestigefyllda uppdraget att vara Pace Car vid motortävlingen Indianapolis 500 – 1958!
