Description
The car comes from the Sandahl collections, which Bilweb Auctions AB will sell in early spring under four different themes; first out some of the family's popular workhorses, mainly Mercedes, Volkswagen, and a joker, then half a dozen exclusive fine Rolls-Royce and Jaguar and then a selection of early Ford cars and a Chevrolet from the infancy and youth of motoring. Last out will be 7 USA cars, of which 5 are representative full-size USA cars from GM's model year 1959, the year when the fins were the largest.
Sandahls is today one of Sweden's largest family-owned transport conglomerates. The company was founded in Värnamo in 1949. Older generations have in their private museum for many years collected around 40 cars under different themes. Bilweb Auctions AB has now been commissioned to sell these in four rounds in February, March, and April this year.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
After a recent start up service, the engine and transmission are running smoothly. Both front brake hoses were replaced, and adjustments made to the brakes, though it's advised to change all brake shoes. A new battery has been fitted. Power steering functions well, but the car lacks electric windows. The last inspection in 2009 noted a few issues (see attached picture). It comes with stylish chrome hubcaps and durable older tires. The exhaust system installed appears to be newer but might not be the original standard fit for the car.
-
Interior condition
Interior is well-maintained, featuring very nice bench seats without any damage, as well as the door cards, headliner, and carpets. The dashboard and gauges are also in good condition, including an original radio that powers on but does not function. Points to note include a bit of loose vinyl on the rear door armrest and a missing foot pad on the gas pedal (details in pictures). The boot space is clean and orderly.
-
Exterior condition
Bodywork is in good condition, straight with no damage or rust, and features a clean underbody. The paintwork has a nice finish with just a few small marks that would benefit greatly from a polish. The chrome detailing around the car is generally in good condition despite a few minor marks. Notably, the front upper chrome trim around the bonnet has some small dents, and the mesh is also dented (details visible in pictures).
-
General condition
This car, having spent the last 20 years mostly displayed in a museum and seldom driven, stands solid and visually appealing. It needs some minor mechanical attention to be ready for its upcoming inspection. A polish will undoubtedly restore its amazing appearance.

Facts about the model
Characterized by its horizontal fins, distinct teardrop taillights, and a "flying wing" roofline for the two-door models, the '59 Impala exuded style and sophistication. Unlike the sharp tailfins of its contemporaries, the Impala opted for a more subdued, yet equally striking, approach. This model year also introduced the "cat's eye" headlights, contributing to its aggressive, yet elegant appearance.
Available in a variety of body styles, including sedans, coupes, and convertibles, the Impala offered something for everyone. Under the hood, buyers could choose from an array of engines, ranging from the economical inline-six to the powerful V8, complemented by options for manual or automatic transmissions.
The interior of the 1959 Impala was equally impressive, featuring luxurious materials, generous seating, and an advanced (for the time) control layout. Its spacious cabin and high level of comfort made it a popular choice among American families and enthusiasts of performance-oriented cars alike.
