Chevrolet Impala Coupé 348 V9 — 1959

The car arrived in Sweden 16 years ago and was then in fantastically fine untouched original condition. The owner wanted the car to be perfect, so it received a new paint job 15 years ago. Today, the car is still just as beautiful. That it is an incredibly beautiful car with the right design and model year makes it one of Sweden's most sought-after Impala coupés.

Description

1959 was the year when everything was at its peak! There were no limits! People didn't even know what the word limitation meant! Those who designed these cars were given free rein. At GM, they just said "do whatever you want," there was plenty of money! And the designs were bold, to say the least! Cadillac got standing fins that were half a meter tall, Pontiac's fins were star-shaped, the Impala got horizontal fins shaped like seagull wings, and tail lights that looked like cat eyes!
The whole world was flourishing, and there were no obstacles. The moon was waiting.
This "seagull wing" Impala has had one owner family in Sweden since 2008. The car has been the family's pride and joy in a collection with several classic American cars in top condition. The car came from the USA 16 years ago. It is in top condition and originally equipped with: a 348 V8 engine with automatic transmission and dual exhaust system. An AC car with original blue-tinted windows. Red interior with a padded dashboard. Power Steering. Bumper guards and dual antennas, among other features. Imported from rust-free Texas in 2007, where it reportedly had only two owners over the years and received maximum care.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition:

The car starts easily and shifts smoothly. Good power in the engine. No strange vibrations or squeaks anywhere. Very good condition, it feels like the car has been very well cared for and only used for shorter distances, for leisure drives and excursions.
When the car came from the USA, it was completely clean underneath, meaning it had never been undercoated! The then-owner did a thorough undercarriage wash and afterward, the car was treated with a thin layer of transparent rust protection wax, the entire undercarriage as well as all cavities. The car is extremely nice and intact underneath. There are no signs of rust or repairs. Straight intact sills. Straight and nice reinforcement beams. The frame is also very nice. Nice floors and even the trunk floor is nice on this Impala. Intact spot welds at the bottom of the rear fenders and in the fender edges. Must almost be unique for a 1959 Impala?
Newer dual exhaust with Magnaflow mufflers in stainless steel. Sounds wonderful!

  • Interior condition:

The door panels are also original and in good condition for their age. Correct silver-flake headliner that is perfectly straight. The sun visors are like new. The carpet is new, as is the parcel shelf. The original "padded dash" is still very nice. Nice instrumentation as well. Straight and nice cardboard insert inside the glove compartment, and the light turns on when opened. Dry and nice torpedo insulation that is still intact as you can see in the pictures.

Trunk space: Clean and nice throughout the trunk with correct carpets. The spare wheel has been refurbished with a new BF Goodrich white wall tire. Jack and tools are very neatly placed in their spots. Original uncut wiring harnesses for the tail lights.

Original perfectly healthy metal in the trunk and I see no damage or repairs. Some signs of surface rust can be seen if you look closely but nothing to remark on.

  • Exterior condition:

When the car was imported from the USA, it still had its original paint. It was nice but a bit worn and polished through in some places. The owner wanted the paint to be perfect and match the rest of the car's fine condition, so the car was handed over to a professional. The car was sanded down to bare metal, and not a single rust spot was found, which is incredible. The final result is almost a "ten" I would say, but I'll give it a "nine" so we haven't said too much. The whole car gives a very good and solid impression. It has never been lowered or rolled on other wheels, instead, the car has been appreciated in its original form just as it is.

The original chrome on the bumpers is still shiny and nice. Straight fine headlight bezels front and back. Nice original blue-tinted glass windows. The window frames are almost like new. Straight and nice grille. The trim is also very nice, there's a minor (nitpicky) remark, but nothing that detracts from the whole.

  • General condition:

An incredibly fine overall impression, an incredibly beautiful car, and a great history make this Impala one of Sweden's most sought-after, we dare say. A piece of car history and an investment to enjoy both on the road and in the garage.
