Description
The car comes from the Sandahl collections, which Bilweb Auctions AB will sell in early spring under four different themes; first out are some of the family's popular workhorses, mainly Mercedes, Volkswagen, and a joker, then half a dozen exclusive fine Rolls-Royce and Jaguar and then a selection of early Ford cars and a Chevrolet from the infancy and youth of motoring. Last out will be 7 USA cars, of which 5 are representative full-size USA cars from GM's model years 1959, the year when the fins were the largest.
Sandahls is today one of Sweden's largest family-owned transport conglomerates. The company was founded in Värnamo in 1949. Older generations have in their private museum for many years collected around 40 cars under different themes. Bilweb Auctions AB has now been commissioned to sell these in four rounds in February, March, and April this year.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
The car has undergone a startup service and is operational, though the generator light remains illuminated, leading to a battery drain after approximately 10 minutes. The braking system has been evaluated, with both front hoses replaced and new fluids added, improving stopping capability, though further maintenance is anticipated. The power steering functions properly, and while the AC is operational, it is not cooling as effectively as it should. The last inspection was conducted on 1999-04-14.
-
Interior condition
Interior is complete and overall in good condition. The front seat exhibits signs of wear and could benefit from a deep clean and lubrication to enhance its appearance. The rear seats are in better shape, while the carpet and door panels are in good condition. The headliner appears original but shows wear in some areas. The dashboard and instruments are intact, featuring charming vintage details. The electric seat adjustments for tilt, slide, and raise functions are operational, and all electric windows work except for the driver's side. Additionally, there is a crack in the glass of the driver's passenger window.
-
Exterior condition
Bodywork is straight, showing no signs of rust or damage, and features a clean underbody. The car has been repainted, likely around 30 years ago, and appears presentable at a glance. However, a closer inspection reveals an orange peel finish, particularly around the rear body, along with some small paint runs and imperfections. These issues could likely be improved with wet sanding and polishing, given the paint appears to be applied thickly. The chrome work on the car remains good and bright all around.
-
General condition
This car is in a presentable state and has potential for cosmetic improvement through simple measures. Addressing the need for a new generator and undergoing a review and inspection will prepare it to return to the road after years of display in a museum.
