"Very beautiful and well-maintained car. Consistently in excellent condition both inside and out. A ready-to-drive car that attracts attention due to its great condition and classic aura."

Description

This fine DeSoto came to Sweden from the USA in 2014. The car had been renovated at that time, including the body and interior. There is no information about whether the engine has been refurbished, but it runs very quietly and smoothly. This applies to the car as a whole. It feels solid and well-built.
The car has matching numbers, meaning the original engine and transmission. It has a three-speed transmission with an overdrive that automatically engages at speeds above 70 km/h. The car is rust-free as far as we can assess, though it has not been checked underneath. It is original except for being converted to 12V and having seat belts installed. A feature article about the car was published in Nostalgia magazine, issue 6 from 2019. (See photos)

Facts about the model

DeSoto was founded by Walter P. Chrysler on August 4, 1928. It was named after the Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto. Chrysler wanted the brand to compete with its main rivals Oldsmobile, Nash, and Pontiac in the mid-range market. Shortly after DeSoto was introduced, Chrysler acquired Dodge, and now had two brands in the mid-range market. If the acquisition had been made a little later, DeSoto may never have seen the light of day. Initially, the strategy of having two brands was relatively successful.

The DeSoto Business Coupe was primarily designed for the country's (i.e., the USA's) traveling salespeople, the so-called "road riders." These were professionals who needed a spacious trunk but often drove alone in the car's cabin. Over time, these models made way for the increasingly popular station wagons, known as "Estates."
