Description
It has been well cared for and primarily driven back and forth to the family’s countryside home in Roslagen. Always stored in a garage and not driven during the winter months for many years. However, older studded winter tires are available if desired.
A set of seat covers has been in place for many years, likely since new. At the time of inspection, one set of keys was present, but documentation and additional keys should also be available—they just need to be found.
The car is drivable but currently deregistered and will need to be inspected.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
Starts easily but ran a bit unevenly at low revs. During a short test drive in a residential area, it performed well with smooth steering and good road feel. Clutch, gearbox, and brakes all functioned properly, providing a calm and stress-free ride.
The car has not been inspected on a lift, but the vital components appear to be in good condition. It has been rustproofed, and it looks like some areas have received additional treatment in more recent years. It’s unclear whether this was done as a preventive measure or to cover previous repairs. -
Interior condition
Very nice original interior, with the seats and rear bench retaining their firmness and comfort—hardly anyone has sat in the back. The seat covers are in great condition and were carefully removed on the passenger seat and center armrest, revealing well-preserved, unworn original upholstery underneath.
Steering wheel, controls, gauges, and dashboard are all in fine condition, as are the wood trim pieces. All electrical functions appear to be working. Most features are manual and fully functional.
The headliner and textile floor mats are in excellent original condition. The rear parcel shelf is slightly sun-faded. Fitted with molded protective floor mats featuring the Mercedes logo. A newer, fully functional Sony stereo with CD player is installed. -
Exterior condition
The exterior is in good condition considering the car’s age and mileage. The paintwork is glossy and nice, likely original for the most part, though there is a slight color variation, notably on the lower part of the driver’s door. The front panel beneath the bumper has damage or a repair.
There is a small stone chip on the windshield, but otherwise, the glass, chrome, rubber seals, and plastic and lighting components are in good condition. The hubcaps are in nice shape, with only minor blemishes.
Tires are from different manufacturers front and rear. The engine bay is in good condition, though there are some splashes from rustproofing treatment. The trunk area is clean and well-kept. -
General condition
After 40 years, this car still remains in solid condition—with doors that close with a reassuring click and seats that retain their firmness. It’s a vehicle that has been used, cared for, and exudes dignity and quality.
At a time when convertibles, coupés, and high-end luxury versions fetch a fortune, this model offers a simpler yet dignified classic—perfect for regular use and a fine enthusiast’s car at a reasonable price.

Facts about the model
Initially, the entry-level W123 model, the 200, was not imported to Sweden. However, with the introduction of emission control systems, it became available there between 1980 and 1985. In Sweden, the model featured a 1,997 cm³ four-cylinder engine producing 98 hp.
For the 1983 model year, the W123 underwent its second facelift. All versions received rectangular headlights, new fresh air intakes in front of the windshield, and redesigned front and rear pillars to reduce wind noise. The interior was updated with expanded wood trim and new materials. The synthetic leather side panels on textile-upholstered seats were removed, and headrests received a new design. Rear legroom was also improved.
Standard features now included power steering, an economy gauge, and electric adjustment of the passenger-side mirror from the center console.
The W123 became a major success, with a reported total production of 2,696,915 units.
