"A well-maintained car that feels solid to drive and is beautiful to look at. A lovely color combination with the lion-yellow paint and black leather interior."

Description

A well-maintained Volvo that hasn't been driven more than about 500 km since 2008. Registered in August 1970. It has likely been fully or partially repainted by one of the previous owners. There are some minor issues to address, such as a noise in the drivetrain when driving off, which could be a driveshaft joint or something similar. There is also an unsightly dent above the lock on the rear hatch, along with some minor scratches and stone chips. The car lacks documentation.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

There is a noise in the drivetrain that could be a driveshaft joint or something similar. The car tends to stall at idle when the engine is cold, but this disappears once the engine warms up. It could possibly be something as simple as old gasoline. All other technical functions are in good condition, though the cabin fan does not work on the highest setting. The brakes are functioning evenly and well.

The car has not been inspected underneath, other than taking pictures of the sills.

  • Interior condition

The leather upholstery is in good condition, though there is a small damage on the passenger seat side near the seatbelt. The panels, floor mats, and headliner are in great shape.

  • Exterior condition

Overall, the car is really nice, except for the previously mentioned damage on the rear hatch. There is a slight dent on the left front fender and a few stone chips. The trim, glass, wheels, and tires are all in great condition. The rear hatch does not have the original lock, but there are double keys included.

  • General condition

In good working condition with a complete and well-maintained interior, and the lion-yellow paint still has a nice shine. There are some minor cosmetic imperfections that you might be able to live with, or alternatively, repair at a relatively low cost.

Facts about the model

The Volvo 164 is a Swedish passenger car produced by Volvo between 1969 and 1975. It was introduced in 1968 as a more luxurious variant of the 140 series. The 164 stands out with a more powerful 6-cylinder engine (B30), a different front design, a longer wheelbase, and more luxurious interior features. The engine was available in both carburetor and fuel-injected versions. The final model year, 1975, was sold only in the USA and Japan, as it had been replaced by the new 264 model in other markets.

The Volvo 164 was the first Volvo car in the luxury class in many years when it was introduced and served as a precursor to today's premium Volvos. It had a natural successor in the 260 series. Unlike the 140 series, the Volvo 164 was only available in a four-door sedan version. A total of 153,179 units of the 164 were produced. Volvo never produced a wagon version, which would have been called the Volvo 165, but a few examples were created by independent coachbuilders.
