Ford Taunus GXL 2.0 V6 — 1972

Ford Taunus GXL 2.0 V6, with the same owner for 36 years and previously owned within the same family, is a true survivor. Remarkably, only 19 of these are left in Sweden.

"The car has been lovingly maintained by its dedicated owner and underwent its last inspection in 2019, after which it has been driven minimally. It is exempt from future inspections. Starts fine, and drives ok in the engine and gearbox, though the brakes may need attention as they have a tendency to stick slightly. A comprehensive examination and appropriate servicing are recommended, but it should be straightforward to get it back on the road."

Description

Originally sold new by the Ford dealer Olle Björklund in Alingsås in 1972, this car was first owned by a family who kept it until 1986. At that time, another family took ownership, and they have retained it for 36 years to this day. The car was frequently driven up until four years ago, after which it has been garaged, largely due to the owner's advancing age. It comes with a lot of older documentation and handbooks, is mechanically sound with a nice interior, but does have some rust issues that need attention—a not surprising fact, given that rust is a common problem for cars of this era.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The car starts, runs, and drives adequately, with the engine, gearbox, clutch, and brakes all functioning. However, a full review of the brakes and a thorough service are needed. These tasks aren't significant, mostly routine maintenance, due to the car not being driven properly for 5 years. The steel wheels are in okay condition, paired with older tires.

  • Interior condition

The interior is in a remarkably good and completely original condition. The seats are sunbleached, with some loss of padding, and the rear seat has some holes around the top edges, but the front seats are fine. The carpets, door cards, and headliner are all in good condition, while the dashboard and gauges are in great shape.

  • Exterior condition

The car displays rust issues, primarily concentrated around the rear wheels, front inner arches, and lower rear wings, as shown in the pictures. Rust blisters are scattered around the car, especially on the inner door sills, though these are mostly surface rust and not structural. The front wing appears to have been replaced, noticeable by a slight color difference. The paintwork is acceptable, with some scratches and paint chips. This is a car that could be saved and even enjoyed as it is during the summer, but addressing the rust problems will be necessary.

  • General condition

You can use the car as it is during the summer, but addressing the rust issues is essential for its preservation. It's definitely worth saving, especially considering its rarity and the high demand for such models from the 1970s
