"Thanks to over 25 years of enthusiast VW ownership, the car has been preserved rather than restored — retaining its genuine character, with extensive original documented history, just three owners, and always kept in ready-to-drive condition."

Description

Swedish sold car from new to a gentleman in Borås, who used the car primarily during the summer months, driving between Borås and Varberg to his summer house.

Period history suggests that in the late 1970s the bonnet was replaced after an incident at a workshop, where a glass panel was accidentally dropped onto it during installation work.

The car was later taken in part exchange by a local Saab and Opel dealer in Borås when the first owner purchased a new Opel Astra. At that time, the car had covered approximately 50,000 km and was described as being in near-new condition. Recognising its exceptional originality, the dealer retained the car for several years, using it only for annual inspections.

The current owner, a well-known VW enthusiast, purchased the car in June 2001 and has carefully preserved it ever since. It has never been fully restored, instead benefiting from sympathetic maintenance that retains its originality and genuine patina. The car has been driven extensively across Sweden and regularly attended VW shows and meetings — it is no trailer queen.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The car starts instantly, with a smooth and stable-running engine, and presents a very clean, well-kept engine bay. The owner has even protected the plastic reservoir with a lead plate to prevent UV damage.

On the road, the car drives well with an easy gearshift and solid brakes — clearly maintained to a high standard and ready for the next owner to enjoy. Inspection exempt for life and ready to go.

  • Interior condition

Interior is clean, well-kept, and original condition. As a TS model, it features the centre console with additional factory gauges, a sportier steering wheel, and a centre-mounted rev counter. Original dashboard is very well preserved with no cracks, and all instruments are present, correct, and fully functional.

The owner has removed the rubber gear lever gaiter during use to preserve it — it is included and easily refitted. The seats have been protected with covers for over 25 years; underneath, they are complete and in good condition, showing only light wear on the rear edges.

The headlining, door cards, and carpets are all in good condition throughout. The factory-fitted sunroof — a real highlight — operates correctly. Also fitted with a correct period radio, completing the original feel of the cabin.

  • Exterior condition

A very presentable car with straight, original bodywork. The only noted rust is on the right front wing, where two small holes are visible — improved replacement wings are included with the car.

The underbody is tidy with no standout rust issues. From new, the car was treated with wax oil rust protection, which has clearly helped preserve it over the years. Paintwork is bright and clean overall. As noted, the bonnet was replaced in the 1970s; the remaining paint appears largely original. There are minor touch-ups visible on the rear boot lid, around the aerial, and in a few small areas.

The boot floor is solid, clean, and well-presented. Chromework is bright and in good condition throughout. An additional radio antenna has been fitted — likely a period 1980s styling addition. The car sits on very nice alloy wheels fitted with good tyres all round.

  • General condition

Anyone — especially a VW enthusiast — would love to own this car. It is exceptionally rare, well-preserved, and a pleasure to drive, complete with a wealth of original documentation. It ticks all the right boxes for ownership.
