"A Beetle convertible in very good condition, ideal for trouble-free enthusiast ownership."

Description

The current owner purchased the VW in 2017 without really knowing much about its previous life. It was a restoration project—worn and tired, but with clear potential that immediately caught his interest.
The following year, in 2018, the restoration work began in earnest. The body and floorpan were given new life through a thorough renovation, and the car was subsequently repainted by Dicka Bil. This laid the foundation for restoring the car into something to be proud of.
Piece by piece, the VW began to come together again. It was fitted with a “new” convertible top frame, while the original—crooked and marked by time—has been preserved and is included with the car as part of its history. The gearbox was also replaced with a somewhat newer unit, and the original transmission is included as well.
Inside, the car underwent a complete transformation. New interior trim and upholstery give it a fresh and inviting appearance, in stark contrast to how it looked when the owner first acquired it. Throughout the restoration process, the work was carefully documented, and numerous photos are included with the car, telling the story of its journey from a worn project to a fully restored vehicle in 2021.
After the restoration, the car was not driven as much as the owner had intended—a familiar story. Once the goal is reached, the desire to start something new often takes over, leaving the previous project standing still.
This presents a great opportunity for someone to take over this very well-restored VW convertible and enjoy it for leisure driving, meets, and events in the future. This is a car that wants to be seen!

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Easy to start. The engine and drivetrain run well. The car’s braking and electrical systems function as they should. Much of the mechanical components have been replaced, as can be seen in the photos.
The driver’s side wiper arm appears to be incorrectly angled. The semaphore indicators are working. Overall, in very good condition!

  • Interior condition

The interior is in excellent condition. Upholstery, door panels, carpets, and dashboard—hard to get better than this.

  • Exterior condition

Professionally refinished to a high standard. Black paint can often make it difficult to achieve perfectly straight and smooth surfaces without waviness, but this example has been done very well. No stone chips were even noted at the time of photography.
There is a minor paint imperfection on the driver’s door—barely visible in the photos—where the black finish appears slightly duller/greyer in a small spot. This may be possible to polish out.
Underneath, the car is also in very good condition (see photos). The convertible top is in like-new condition and operates smoothly without issues. The brightwork is, once again, in excellent condition.

  • General condition

A Karmann-built VW convertible in a condition for those who strive for perfection. It is not often that one gets the opportunity to see such a high-quality restoration in a finished and well-executed state. Ready to drive for the summer.

Facts about the model

After Beetle production got underway, convertible versions were introduced from 1949. There were several variants, both two- and four-seaters, but the Karmann-built versions eventually came to dominate.

From the outset, their four-seater models featured solid craftsmanship with high precision. This was especially evident in the high-quality convertible top mechanism, made from durable materials and designed to function even in winter conditions.

The open models were otherwise developed largely in parallel with the standard “Beetle.”
