Description

This vehicle was registered in Sweden in March 1972. The current owner acquired the car in April 1996. According to the information, the car has now covered 10,077 miles, and the odometer has gone through one full revolution. During his ownership, the car has received regular servicing. The owner has taken care of oil changes and motor service himself. Recently, he replaced the starter carburetor, distributor cap, contact points, and condenser.

Around fifteen years ago, the car sustained a minor front-end collision, which led to the replacement of both front fenders. The headliner has also been replaced. The car is equipped with Dunlop spoke wheels.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The car starts and runs well, the automatic transmission works well, including the kickdown function. The brakes and steering also work well. Given the model and age, there might be some minor rattling, as is usual for such cars. The left fuel tank is not functioning and needs to be addressed. All electrical systems appear to be working. The car has not been checked on a lift, but what could be seen during the inspection looked good, and it received praise from the vehicle inspection.

  • Interior condition

The interior is in good condition with normal wear and tear. The front seats have a classic leather patina, and the rear seats are in even better condition. The fabric mat on the driver's side will be replaced soon. The headliner has already been replaced, and the wood trim shows some patina but is in good condition. All electrical systems appear to be working.

  • Exterior condition

The paintwork is in good condition with minor scratches, stone chips, and some blistering. Recently, the owner noticed a damage near the right rear wheel arch, likely only affecting the paint. The car has nice spoke wheels with different tires on the front and rear, but with good tread depth. The chrome, glass, and rubber details show the mileage and age of the car.

  • General condition

It is often said, in fine original condition with some patina. Naturally, it's a fluid and subjective concept and perception. But when it comes to a rolling British gentlemen's club, with a bulletproof engine, leather, cushioning carpets, wood, and plenty of instruments and buttons, it feels right. There are things that can be improved, but it also suffices as it is. A Jaguar from the cusp of the 60s and 70s is like a well-worn pair of boots or a well-used tweed jacket, you feel comfortable in them. A true classic...

Facts about the model

The XJ 6 model was launched at the London Motor Show in September 1968 and became an immediate success. In one stroke and with one model, Jaguar moved forward in the market. A number of "outdated models" disappeared, and here was an affordable, modern, and attractive car. The order books quickly filled up, and once again, the epitomes "pace, space, and grace" became synonymous with Jaguar. There were two engine options, a 2.8L with 142hp and a 4.2L with 186hp, with the latter becoming more popular. The following year, a more luxurious version called Daimler Sovereign was introduced. If the cars had vinyl roofs, they were also named Vanden Plas in addition. In 1972, a version with a 12-cylinder engine, the XJ12, and an extended L-version were introduced. The following year, the Daimler version also received these attributes. In 1973, the smaller 2.8L engine was discontinued and eventually replaced with a 3.4L engine a couple of years later. The XJ 6 Series 1 model became the last one in which the company's founder, Sir William Lyons, participated in the development. According to information, 98,527 units of the XJ 6 Series 1 were manufactured. For the model year 1974, the Series II was introduced with some changes, such as a new grille and higher bumpers, among others.
