Condition
-
Mechanical condition
The car starts easily and runs smoothly and briskly. Everything mechanical is in top shape, and the undercarriage is in great condition with no visible rust, except for a hole in the spare wheel well and some abrasions in the undercoating that should be inspected. There are also a few minor previous repairs. It features a custom-built two-inch exhaust system in a more recent design.
-
Interior condition
The interior is in a pleasant and nice condition: Seat upholstery and carpets were renovated a few years ago. The right-hand drive steering wheel is present, along with a tachometer on the dashboard, which has also been refurbished. As the car was previously a police vehicle, it features two 12-volt outlets, with one being used for an additional detachable blue emergency light on the roof during response calls. Additionally, a police siren is installed in the engine compartment. There is a newer audio system in the car as well.
-
Exterior condition
The car has a glossy paint job, but there are signs of sun damage, paint touch-ups, and various imperfections such as bubbles. The glass and chrome are in excellent condition, especially the bumpers, which are in very good shape. Some damage can be found on a few window trims, particularly those around the rear window. The car has nice wheels with newer Hankook tires.
-
General condition
The car is in very good mechanical condition, with significant upgrades to essential parts in recent years. The paintwork and details could be improved, and the new owner has the option to drive and use it "as is" or partially or fully restore the body and paintwork. Regardless, it is an Amazon with a unique and interesting history, as well as some special features. This makes it an exciting collector's item and an uncommon classic of a model that is otherwise common in Sweden.

Facts about the model
Designed by Jan Wilsgaard with Italian influences, the Amazon was Volvo's answer to the so-called pontoon body style that became iconic in the 1950s. It was manufactured from 1956 to 1970, with model years ranging from 1957 to 1970. For the 1959 model year, it became the world's first mass-produced car with front seat three-point seatbelts as standard.
The reliable B18 engine with 75 horsepower was introduced for the 1962 model year. In 1965, several changes were made, including a new grille, new seats and interior, as well as the introduction of so-called "hole" rims and new hubcaps.
For the 1969 model year, an even larger engine, the B20A with 2.0 liters and 82 horsepower DIN, was introduced in the "regular" 121 model. It also featured improved and safer brakes, along with various upgrades from the 140 model. However, some features, such as chrome moldings and roof trim, were removed. There were no major changes or advancements during the final production years. New colors were introduced in 1969, including "Mellanblå" (Medium Blue) from the 140 series.
As the 1970s began, the Amazon was retired after 14 model years and a total of 667,332 units produced. It was available in two, four, or five-door versions, ranging from standard models to Sport and GT versions. It is a Swedish icon and a significant part of automotive history.
