Mechanical condition
Starts easily and ran well in both engine and drivetrain. During a gentle test drive on a small country road, the car felt lively and pleasant to drive. Steering, clutch, gearbox, handling, and braking functions are all in good working order. Everything is original except for the rear silencer, which gives a slightly more assertive sound. Not inspected on a lift, but what could be seen appeared to be in good condition. No remarks from vehicle inspections.
-
Interior condition
Original interior in good condition with normal light wear for its age and mileage. Good seat comfort, with door panels, trim, and textile carpets all in fine condition. Additional protective mats. Steering wheel, controls, dashboard, and gauges are in good condition and function well. All electrical functions work, although during the inspection the right door’s electric window failed, likely due to a loose connection. The steering wheel currently fitted is an aftermarket wood-rim model; the original is included. Period-correct stereo with radio and cassette player, along with a functioning electric antenna.

Exterior condition
Nice and glossy, seemingly original paintwork with normal light wear for its age and mileage. Glass, trim, emblems, and plastic, rubber, and lighting details are in fine condition. Attractive wheels with good Continental tyres. Soft top in good condition with simple and well-functioning manual operation. Tidy soft top cover. Engine bay and luggage compartment in good condition.

General condition
It is often said that a model nearing the end of its production run is at its very best, and the same can be said of the Series 4, which carried the model’s nearly 30-year history with honour. Now, more than 30 years on, this car remains in very fine and user-friendly condition, with lively and well-functioning performance. The twin-cam engine is legendary. This is a fine classic and enthusiast’s car with collector status.

Facts about the model
The Spider model — a convertible based on the Giulia 105 and later 115 series, designed by Pininfarina — followed the classic formula for a European sports car: front engine and rear-wheel drive. It went on to become one of the longest-produced convertibles in history, with model years spanning from 1966 to 1993, the final cars officially carrying the 1994 model year designation.
The first version, Series 1, gained significant attention when driven by Dustin Hoffman in the 1967 film The Graduate. Series 1 featured the distinctive plastic headlight covers and rounded tail. From the outset, it was given various nicknames — as the saying goes, a beloved child has many names — including Duetto, Osso di Seppia, and Roundtail.
In 1970, Series II arrived with a squarer tail but retained the same front. For the 1983 model year, Series III was introduced with a revised front and rear, now featuring a rubber spoiler. This version lasted until the 1990 model year, when the final facelift, Series IV, appeared with a redesigned front and a new rear without the rubber lip.
Beyond these updates, there were numerous versions with engines ranging from 1,290 cc to 1,962 cc. In total, 124,104 rear-wheel-drive Alfa Romeo Spiders were produced between 1966 and 1993.
