"“Meticulously maintained and untouched original car that can be regarded as completely rust-free. Serviced according to schedule with the service book filled in. Everything works well—just turn the key and drive.”"

Description

This car was first registered for road use on October 7, 1988, when its first owner acquired it. He owned, cared for, and drove it for almost 32 years. Though an economical standard model, it was ordered with some nice extras and comes equipped with a sunroof, BBS wheels, fog lights, a rear spoiler, stereo, and tow bar.

The current owner, a BMW enthusiast and active member of the Oldtimer section of BMW Club Schweden, acquired the car in July 2020. Under his care, it has continued to be well looked after and has led a gentle life, always garaged when not used for leisure drives. The odometer now shows 161,230 km.

Included with the car are the original brochure, manuals, completed service book, as well as a binder containing inspection records, receipts, and other documentation from the current owner. Recently inspected and ready to drive.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Starts easily and the engine and drivetrain ran well. During a gentle test drive in a residential area, everything—such as steering (non-assisted), clutch, gearbox, suspension components, and brakes—appeared to function properly. The timing belt has been replaced according to the 4-year interval, most recently on June 2 this year. It has not been inspected on a lift, but what could be seen underneath looked good, with no remarks from inspections.

  • Interior condition

Well-preserved interior with good comfort in both the front seats and rear bench. Door panels, trim, headliner, and carpets are in excellent condition. Steering wheel, controls, dashboard, and gauges are equally well-preserved. All electrical functions work properly. The manually operated sunroof works flawlessly with both tilt and slide functions. Period-correct Clarion stereo with external speakers on the rear shelf. Protective plastic/rubber floor mats.

  • Exterior condition

Nice, solid white paint in original finish, very well-preserved for its age and mileage. Glass, trim, emblems, plastic, rubber, and lighting details are likewise in excellent condition. There is a small stone chip in the windshield on the passenger side. Equipped with fog lights and an M-Technic rear spoiler. Beautiful BBS cross-spoke wheels with good Michelin Energy tires. Both the engine bay and luggage compartment are in well-preserved original condition. Complete tool kit and untouched spare wheel/tire in the rear.

  • General condition

This car combines driving pleasure with good economy and practicality. A few extra items on the equipment list add to the appeal, including a useful tow bar. Now more than 40 years on, the model stands as a fine usable classic and enthusiast’s car.

Facts about the model

When BMW gained momentum and success with the Neue Klasse, the lively 02 models, and the 3 Series during the 1960s and 70s, it was time to take another step up in the 1980s. In November 1982, the E30 model was introduced. At that time, it was still West Germany, and the watchword was quality. German premium and sports car makers had become the benchmark for the entire world, and BMW was among the very best—the new model was no exception. BMW rolled out two- and four-door versions, ranging from calm pensioner-friendly cars to pure racing models for those with extra shoulder pads in their blazers. Convertible versions also followed, first the Baur cabriolet with a targa-style roll bar, and later a full cabriolet from the summer of 1985. Two years later came the Touring, i.e. the estate version.

The 318i versions featured lively four-cylinder engines with fuel injection, producing 113 hp. This gave performance figures of 0–100 km/h in 10.8 seconds and a top speed of 188 km/h. Of course, there were more powerful versions, but the injected four-cylinder became a popular and economical choice, combined with BMW’s quality and sporty image.

In 1991, the new E36 replaced the E30 sedan, though the E30 cabriolet continued to be produced until the 1994 model year. In total, 2,339,164 E30s were built—respect.
