"A fine Bubble from the last years of the 1950s with the classic fins still in place and with many amusing period accessories. Everything is in fine condition and gives a nice original feel. Has been standing for a few years now."

The current owner, a well-known figure in the motor history hobby for many years, acquired the car in July 2006, where it has been part of his extensive private collection. Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Started before sale but not driven for several years. Requires an inspection before it is ready to take to the road again. Should not be anything extensive as it ran well when last driven.

Not inspected on a lift but what could be seen underneath looked good, painted and treated.

  • Interior condition

Fine original upholstery with light patina of use, good fabric and comfortable seats. Covers on front seats. Fine door panels and trim as well as headliner. Steering wheel, controls, dashboard and gauges in fine condition. Both rubber mats and textile mats in front in good condition. Front luggage compartment in fine condition with fine accessories included. Rear luggage compartment in good condition.

  • Exterior condition

Fine and glossy paintwork with equally fine glass, chrome, trim, emblems and lighting details. Good wheels with fine hubcaps and trim rings. Bosch headlights typical of the period and small reversing lamp, unusual insect deflector on the bonnet and roof rack. Fine and clean engine compartment.

  • General condition

Regardless of version and model year, a Bubble is always a sought-after classic and enthusiast car, not least in this fine condition. The buyer also receives several fine and sought-after accessories.

Owner's comment

Our father has always been an enthusiastic motor historian and over the years many fine and well-maintained cars have passed through his collection. He has always cared for, serviced and kept them in excellent and roadworthy condition. It has been a lifestyle and a multitude of friends, cars and memories he and we as a family carry with us. Now it is time for the next chapter for us and the cars in the collection.

Facts about the model

There are columns of text written about the history of the VW 1200, everything from the project's start in the 1930s, how English soldiers got operations running after World War II and how the first cars found their way to Sweden and Scania Vabis in 1948. So we jump quickly forward 11 years to 1959. VW left the decade by reinforcing the frame header, strengthened clutch, anti-roll bar introduced, padded sun visor, new steering wheel with horn ring and new door handles with push buttons and it is the last year with the direction indicators on the B-pillar. Into the new decade came various improvements year after year and the Type 1 rolled on into the 1960s and maintained leading positions in the sales statistics. In Germany, production ended in 1975. However, in Mexico production continued until 2003. In total, 21,529,464 examples of the Beetle were manufactured.
