"Sensible and in fine condition with clutch and brake work to be addressed initially."

Description

First registered for traffic in Sweden in July 1964. It was acquired for the Sandahls collections in the eighties as part of having all Mercedes compact models in diesel version represented. Otherwise, the history is unknown, but naturally, one can continue to search for it in the National Archives if desired.

The car comes from the Sandahls collections, which Bilweb Auctions AB will sell in early spring under four different themes; first out are some of the family's popular faithful servants, mainly Mercedes, Volkswagen, and some jokers, then half a dozen exclusive Rolls-Royce and Jaguar, followed by a selection of early Ford cars and a Chevrolet from the childhood and adolescence of motoring. The last will be nine different prize-winning and representative full-size American cars from 1959, the year when the fins were the largest.

Sandahls is today one of Sweden's largest family-owned transport conglomerates. The company was founded in Värnamo in 1949. Older generations have in their private museum collected about 40 cars under various themes for many years. Bilweb Auctions AB has now been given the task and the honor to sell these in four rounds in February and March this year.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

With a recent basic startup service and a new battery, the car starts and runs. However, it needs clutch and brake cylinder replacements, a full brake service, and possibly new radiator hoses due to a minor water leak. The engine bay is in good condition. It was last inspected in 1985, and one final inspection is needed for permanent exemption.

  • Interior condition

The interior is in a very presentable and well-kept condition, and it would benefit from a thorough cleaning to look even nicer. While the seats are in good shape, it's worth noting that the driver's seat has been replaced, as shown in the pictures. The mats, headliner, door cards, dashboard, and instrumentation are all in good condition.

  • Exterior condition

The bodywork is straight and free from dents or rust, with a repaint likely done over 30 years ago that still looks bright and attractive; a quick polish could enhance its appearance further. The chrome is shiny, undamaged, and complements the nice steel wheels and hubcaps, which are mounted on old but serviceable rubber tires. The underbody shows signs of older welding and has a small rust spot, but is generally in a solid condition. Drivers door corner edge sticks out "see pictures"

  • General condition

Classic fins on a cool 1960's design and in a good condition to start from, with relatively simple repairs and service needed before it goes onto the road.
