Description
The car comes from Sandahl's collection, which Bilweb Auctions AB will be selling in four different themes in early spring; first, some of the family's popular workhorses, mainly Mercedes and Volkswagen, then about half a dozen exclusive fine Rolls-Royce and Jaguar cars, followed by a selection of early Ford cars and a Chevrolet from the childhood and youth of motoring. Finally, nine different award-winning and representative full-size USA cars from 1959, the year when fins were at their largest.
Sandahls is one of Sweden's largest family-owned transport companies today. The company was founded in Värnamo in 1949. Older generations have collected about 40 cars under various themes in their private museum for many years. Bilweb Auctions AB has now been tasked with the honor of selling these cars in four installments in February and March this year.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
After a recent review and the installation of a new battery, the engine turns over but doesn't start due to a fuel pump issue. There's also a broken rear left brake hub/disc. The car rolls freely but needs a thorough review and full service since its last inspection in 1997, after which it was displayed in a museum. It has good wheels with older tires, a tow bar, but missing front headlight wipers.
-
Interior condition
The interior of the car is clean and well-maintained, showcasing that renowned German quality. The seats, door cards, carpets, and headliner are in great condition, with only minor marks on the seats that could benefit from a thorough valet and shampoo. The electric roof operates perfectly and doesn't leak even when the car is being washed. The dashboard plastic is undamaged, featuring clean gauges. However, the glove box lid doesn't close properly, and there's no radio fitted.
-
Exterior condition
The bodywork is straight without any dents, but it does show signs of rust, particularly around the edges of the bonnet and the lower front wings. There's also rust present around the front and rear valance, as depicted in the pictures. The underbody remains in good condition with no significant damage, although there is some surface rust around the jacking points. The paintwork still looks vibrant and well-maintained, with only minor age-related stone chips and scratches. The car features shiny chromework and has an added 1980s boot spoiler.
-
General condition
Getting this car back on the road should be a manageable task, primarily involving the repair of the fuel pumps and brakes. The cosmetic issues can be addressed over time, as these engines are known for their durability and reliability, built to handle long distances with ease.
