"The car was reimported to Sweden in its original, unrestored condition. Good mechanical condition with fresh body, paintwork, and interior."

Description

Volvo's most expensive model the 262 Coupé, also known as the 260-Bertone, has an interesting backstory. Volvo in Sweden produced the chassis and technological components. The body was reconstructed into a coupe form, and the car was produced in Italy at Bertone. The majority were sold in the United States. This model was delivered in the spring of 1980 by a Volvo dealer in San Diego, California. The car has been driven 129,000 miles in the United States, which is equivalent to 206,000 km. It has survived well due to its dry climate. The majority of the paintwork is original. Due to sun fading, only the bonnet and roof were repainted. The car has had three owners in the United States and one in Sweden, and it has always been garaged when not in use. A Swedish Volvo collector discovered the car in Pasadena in 2020, and it was transferred in a container to Gothenburg in the spring of 2021. The car has been serviced and the front seats reupholstered in the original design and it has been registered. This summer, it was utilized on trips and car shows, where it drew a lot of attention due to its fine condition.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The engine started right away, and the transmission shifted normally. Good engine power and smooth driving, even at high speeds, with no vibrations or unusual noises. During the test drive, it is clear that this is a luxury car.

  • Interior condition

Complete, tidy, and with a lovely distinctive interior (with a delicious design). No remarks, which is remarkable given that the interior is made of light leather and faux leather. The door panels, headliner, carpets, and dashboard are likewise in great condition and have been well-maintained. The radio is broken.

  • Exterior condition

The bodywork is completely rust free and undamaged. Very good paintwork, mostly original. Nice trim, lights bumpers, and other features. Original wheels in good condition with proper hubcaps. Only a few touch ups and stone chips and minor parking door dents can be detected if you look closely.

  • General condition

A lovely example of one of Volvo's more expensive models. 80% of the production was sold to US clients looking for something unique, a good combination of Volvo safety and quality with an Italian interior design and a French V6 engine.
Because the car was too expensive for Swedish customers, only around 50 examples were sold in 1980 and six in 1981, hence fine specimens can only be found in the United States. As a result, this is a pretty great collector's car for individuals who adore Volvo and enjoy driving.
