"Only one owner and driver since new. Due to an administrative technicality, the vehicle register incorrectly shows four previous owners.

When new, the car cost SEK 178,000—a substantial amount for a "Baby Benz" in 1987. However, it was also ordered with desirable factory options, including a sunroof and a five-speed manual transmission.

The car has a valid inspection certificate through the end of November 2026.

We recommend carrying out a full service and a general mechanical inspection before undertaking longer journeys. The most recent service record dates from 1994, and although the car has covered only a few thousand kilometers since then, rubber components and other materials naturally age over the course of 30 years.

The car is fitted with period aftermarket accessories, including a rear window louver, trunk lid spoiler, headlight stone guards, a matte black grille, and alloy wheels. All of these can be removed easily for anyone who prefers the car in its original factory appearance."

Description

This vehicle is being sold on behalf of an estate.

First, we would like to explain why the Swedish vehicle register lists four previous owners.

The car was purchased new on June 12, 1987, by Mr. Holmgren of Vilhelmina from the Mercedes-Benz dealer Ivars Bil AB. As was common practice at the time, the dealership was initially registered as the first owner, while Mr. Holmgren was recorded as the second owner.

In 1994, Mr. Holmgren decided to preserve the car by storing it in his garage. At that time, it had covered just under 60,000 km (approximately 37,000 miles). The car was taken off the road and remained in storage until his passing in 2021.

During the estate settlement, ownership was transferred to Mr. Holmgren's sister, who was registered as the third owner even though she never drove or used the vehicle.

When the heirs later decided to sell the car, they were mistakenly informed that ownership first had to be transferred back to the estate before it could be sold. As a result, the late Mr. Holmgren was registered once again—this time as the fourth owner.

Although this may seem confusing at first glance, the reality is straightforward: Mr. Holmgren purchased the car new and was its only actual owner and driver throughout its life. In an unusual administrative twist, he even ended up being registered twice as the owner of his own car, the second time after his death.

The heirs have driven the car less than 150 km, solely for transportation to a workshop and the mandatory vehicle inspection.

When ordered new in 1987, the car cost SEK 178,000, a significant sum at the time, reflecting desirable factory options including a sunroof and a five-speed manual transmission.

The odometer currently reads 66,520 km. This mileage is fully supported by the accompanying documentation, and the heirs guarantee that it is correct.

The sale includes the period rear window louver ("hönstrappa"), which has been removed from the car, as well as a set of tinted rear taillights. The original chrome-surround grille is also included.

The complete history file accompanies the car, including the original purchase contract from 1987.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Starts easily and runs smoothly. Factory-equipped with the optional sunroof and five-speed manual transmission.

The car was kept off the road and in storage from 1994 until 2024. It has now been recommissioned and brought back into running condition. A workshop has installed a new fuel pump and change the fuel tank.

A full service and general mechanical inspection are recommended in the near future.

  • Interior condition

The interior is in very good condition. Seat covers have been fitted for most of the car's life, helping to preserve the original upholstery.

The car is equipped with a Philips cassette radio purchased in 1988, which cost SEK 5,000 at the time.

A professional interior detailing would further enhance the cabin and restore the appearance expected of such a low-mileage example.

  • Exterior condition

Original paint in good overall condition. There is a scratch on the left rear door (see photo). The original chrome grille is included but is not currently fitted.

There is some minor surface rust around the jacking points.

The car is fitted with alloy wheels and older tires.

  • General condition

Overall, the car presents very well. It has covered only 66,000 km from new.

It was stored off the road in a garage for approximately 30 years and has now been brought back into use and passed its roadworthiness inspection in preparation for sale.

Introduced in late 1982 as Mercedes-Benz's first compact executive sedan, it marked the brand's entry into the compact and mid-size luxury segment and laid the foundation for Mercedes-Benz's modern presence in this market.
