Description
The car has had just four owners since new. The current owner acquired it from his brother in 2007, meaning it has remained within the same family for many years.
Since then, the car has been serviced annually with regular oil changes and routine maintenance. It is accompanied by a comprehensive file of invoices covering all servicing and repair work carried out since April 2008, along with Swedish inspection records dating back to 2002.
The car still wears its original paintwork, which retains a good gloss and presents well. Over the years, a number of maintenance items have been addressed. In 2011, the timing belt, auxiliary belt, distributor cap, rotor, and washer pump were replaced. The following year, the rear silencer and brake pressure regulator were renewed. In 2014, an oil leak was rectified by removing and resealing the oil pan, and a wheel alignment was carried out in 2016. In 2026, the right rear wheel bearing was replaced. In preparation for the auction, the timing belt has also been replaced once again.
The body is generally well preserved. The only notable corrosion consists of two small rust spots at the lower rear edges of the front fenders adjacent to the doors (see photos). The convertible top was waterproofed in 2008 and remains in good condition.
The car has been used exclusively as a summer vehicle and has always been garage-stored during the winter months. In addition to local enjoyment, it has proven itself on several extended European road trips, including a memorable journey to Corsica. While the original service book is no longer present, comprehensive service documentation accompanies the car.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
Starts easily and runs well. First gear can be difficult to engage and is easiest to select by first moving the gear lever towards reverse, so the gear linkage or selector mechanism should be inspected. The braking system functions properly, with the brakes performing well. The radio is inoperative. The right-hand rear tail light lens is cracked (see photo).
-
Interior condition
The interior is in good overall condition but would benefit from a thorough detailing. The dashboard, carpets, and door panels all present well.
-
Exterior condition
The car retains its original paintwork, which presents well with a deep gloss and only minor signs of use (see photos). The convertible top has been professionally repaired (see photo), and the repair appears to have been carried out to a good standard. The underside is consistent with what would be expected of a well-maintained 1995 vehicle (see photos). The locking tab on the fuel filler flap is bent but should be straightforward to realign so that the flap locks properly (see photo). The side molding on the driver's door protrudes slightly at the rear edge (see photo).

General condition
A charming, lively, and well-cared-for Volkswagen Cabriolet in good driver-quality condition. It looks and feels as though it has seen considerably less use than the odometer reading would suggest.

Facts about the model
Its distinctive roll bar behind the front seats—often referred to as the "basket handle"—has become the model's defining feature, contributing both to its impressive safety credentials and its unmistakable silhouette. The Cabriolet comfortably accommodates four occupants and offers generous luggage space for its class, making it equally well suited to everyday driving and longer touring holidays.
The 1995 model belongs to the later generation of Golf Cabriolets, featuring a redesigned front end and an updated interior inspired by the Golf Mk3, while retaining the classic body shape that had already become an icon. A range of petrol engines was available, with the fuel-injected versions being particularly well regarded for their excellent balance of performance, fuel economy, and reliability.
Thanks to its robust engineering, low running costs, and excellent availability of spare parts, the Golf Cabriolet has become a popular enthusiast's car. It offers relaxed, comfortable motoring wrapped in a timeless design that continues to attract attention.
Today, the 1995 Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet is considered a modern classic. Well-preserved, original examples are becoming increasingly difficult to find and are appreciated both by collectors and by drivers seeking a dependable, charming convertible for sunny summer drives.
