Description

This motorcycle was first registered for road use on 29 April 1974. It has had eight owners over the years, with the most recent owner having owned it since 21 September 2000. He was a dedicated vehicle enthusiast with several classic vehicles in his garage and an active member of several clubs. Condition

  • Mechanical condition

Starts easily and runs smoothly. Not test-driven, but everything appears to work well; however, a thorough inspection is always recommended before pushing it hard.

  • Interior condition

Nice saddle, and all instruments and gauges are in working order.

  • Exterior condition

Appears to be in good, original condition. All details are in fine condition, with polished engine components. All chrome parts and details, emblems, and lighting components are in good condition. The rear light function needs to be checked. Sturdy supports. Nice wheels with approved tyres, although they are probably due for replacement.

  • General condition

Ducati is a classic brand that has successfully maintained its niche in the market with heavyweight motorcycles and an impressive record on the racetrack. This machine now has 50 years behind it and is a fine representative of a classic European motorcycling era among all the Harleys and Japanese bikes. In this condition, it is a wonderful classic and an enthusiast’s motorcycle for anyone who wants to ride in their own lane.

Facts about the model

Ducati was founded by brothers Adriano and Marcello Ducati in Bologna in 1926. Initially, they manufactured radio equipment. After the Second World War, they launched and achieved great success with a motorised bicycle featuring an innovative four-stroke engine, the Ducati Cucciolo. In 1952, the company introduced its first motorcycle, in a scooter-style design. During these years, they also manufactured cameras.

With the launch of the Ducati 750 GT in the 1970s and success in the Superbike World Championship, Ducati established itself as a manufacturer of high-performance motorcycles. The 860 GT was introduced in 1974, followed the following year by the GTS version, which featured a sportier design and improved details. It was powered by an 864 cc L-twin (90-degree V-twin) engine with Ducati’s signature desmodromic valve system and air cooling, producing a claimed 60 hp and a top speed of 180 km/h. Power was transmitted through a five-speed gearbox.

Over the years, Ducati has faced financial struggles and changed ownership several times, but today it is owned by VAG through Lamborghini.
