"A reborn Swedish classic that is just as impressive at exhibitions, on outings, or as an indoor art installation."

Description

It was delivered new to its first owner, Bernt Ola Levander in Husum, north of Örnsköldsvik, in June 1958. It must have been a very excited 20-year-old who first straddled his Guldpil for a summer full of joyful riding. At that time, the total weight of a maximum of 75 kg logically determined whether it was classified as a lightweight, rather than the maximum engine size of 125 cm³. The owner who restored the bike prefers tinkering over riding and is, consequently, a meticulous mechanic. The bike has been completely disassembled and restored down to the smallest screw and nut. It was re-registered and inspected for the last time in September 2019, and the current owner bought the bike later that fall.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

It started easily every time it was kicked over during documentation, and the bike runs smoothly. The odometer was reset when the restoration was completed in 2019, and it has since traveled just over 14 kilometers.

  • Interior condition

Newly upholstered seat with fine studs.

  • Exterior condition

Well-polished, clean, and neat. No oil leaks or dirt. The value of the Guldpil lies as much in its low production numbers as in the gold stripe on the tank. It’s beautiful regardless.

  • General condition

A rarer lightweight motorcycle with a kind of cult status, beautifully restored. Manufactured in relatively small numbers and only between 1957-1959, hence its exclusivity.

Facts about the model

Between 1957 and 1959, Husqvarna sold the model Guldpilen, a stronger and faster variant of the Silverpilen with a 200 cc engine producing 10.5 hp. It also had a curb weight under 75 kg, which meant it could be ridden by 16-year-olds. The low curb weight was achieved by stripping away everything deemed non-essential, but these weight savings also resulted in brakes that were too weak for the speeds the Guldpilen could reach. Therefore, it is said that the Guldpilen (and Monark’s even faster lightweight motorcycle, the Blå Stinget, with a 200 cc engine producing 12.5 hp) stopped being sold at the authorities’ request, as they were considered too dangerous. However, this specific reason has not been confirmed.
