The IZH Planeta Sport 350 was something rather unusual for its time — a Soviet sport motorcycle that aimed to deliver a taste of Western-style performance, yet with a character that only Eastern Bloc engineering could create. With its 350 cc two-stroke engine and comparatively modern styling for the era, it stood apart from the more utilitarian motorcycles commonly seen behind the Iron Curtain.
It is said to have been intended as a “fast” machine for enthusiasts in the Soviet Union, though in reality it was just as much a blend of everyday transportation and sporting ambition. The air-cooled two-stroke produced a distinctive sound — raspy, mechanical, but full of life. And once running properly, it could surprise riders with lively acceleration, at least when everything was correctly adjusted.
Many examples lived hard lives behind the Iron Curtain, where parts were swapped, repaired, and adapted according to whatever was available. Because of this, every Planeta Sport became a little unique, shaped as much by its owner as by the factory in Izhevsk.

Facts about the model
The IZH Planeta Sport 350 (also known as the Izh Planet Sport) is a legendary Soviet motorcycle produced by the state-owned IZH factory in Izhevsk from 1974 into the 1980s. The model marked a complete departure from the factory’s earlier heavy and traditional designs.
