Description
Their daughter inherited the car in 2009 and essentially acted only as a careful custodian, driving it very rarely. Eventually, in 2017, the car was passed down once again within the family to another daughter — the granddaughter of the original owner. However, she lacked the opportunity to properly care for the family heirloom and sold the car to the current owner later that same year.
Since then, the current owner has continued to care for the car with regular oil services and has replaced the shock absorbers, springs, tires, fuel sender unit, and fitted a larger brake servo along with a twin-outlet, slightly louder exhaust muffler. He has also tidied up the relays and wiring under the hood, though much of the decorative equipment has intentionally been left in place to preserve the car’s personality and spirit. That said, two red M badges on the front were considered enough — the two rear badges were removed.
The latest — and final — approved inspection under the current regulations was carried out on May 20, 2017. At that time, the car was still within an approved inspection period when the revised inspection exemption rules came into effect on April 20, 2018.
Technical data
Condition
-
Mechanical condition
A wonderfully smooth sound and strong torque from the inline-six engine. The gearbox, clutch, and brakes all work harmoniously together with the engine’s character. The mileage is not verified, but in all likelihood totals just over 175,600 kilometers.
-
Interior condition
A fine and attractive original interior, with the wood trim on the dashboard remaining intact. There is slight wear damage to the driver’s seat cushion. The steering wheel and controls are clean and undamaged, although the additional air horn is operated by a somewhat overly accessible push button mounted on the floor. A small auxiliary instrument panel has been fitted in the center, matching the rest of the car’s wood-trimmed aesthetic nicely.
-
Exterior condition
An older repaint in very good condition. The chrome and glass are in fine shape. The manual mechanical sunroof opens and closes smoothly and effectively. The original wheels with chrome trim rings and older Michelin tires are still included with the car. The wire-spoke wheels are fitted with newer and roadworthy Vitour budget whitewall tires.
-
General condition
A thoughtfully executed, well-preserved, and carefully maintained example with an appealing history. The practical tow hitch and the fixed telescopic mirrors mounted on the front fenders are likely appreciated most by vintage caravan enthusiasts.
