"Drive as is or fully restore it — all depending on your level of ambition."

Description

Mercedes has, throughout the years, produced many fine coupé and convertible cars, including during the production of the W111 model, which was manufactured between 1960 and 1971. In February 1961, a coupé version was introduced, followed by a convertible in September of the same year. Both were designed by Paul Bracq and, unlike the sedan models, they lacked tailfins and instead featured downward-sloping rear fenders. Development then followed the rest of the model range through the 250 SE and 280 SE. A total of 32,804 two-door vehicles were produced.

This particular example was imported from Germany in 1982 and has only been pre-registered. It must undergo a registration inspection before it can be put into use. It is being sold as a parts car, as we do not know whether it can be legally registered for road use in Sweden again, since it has not been registered within ten years of customs clearance. Its earlier history is unknown. The car is drivable under its own power. The engine has been replaced with a 230 unit. The bumpers are not original for this model.

The buyer is responsible for applying to the Swedish Transport Agency for an origin inspection and subsequently carrying out the registration inspection.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The engine has been replaced with a 230 unit. The fuel tank has now been cleaned, so the car starts and runs. A very short test drive has been carried out on the premises. A technical inspection should be performed before any longer test drive is undertaken.

  • Interior condition

Beautifully patinated leather upholstery, including some seams that have come apart. The convertible top headliner is in poor condition. Cracked lacquer on the wooden trim panels. The radio is missing, as is the cover where the radio would be mounted. See photos.

  • Exterior condition

Usable condition with signs of rust and filler. See photos for examples. Bumpers are from a Mercedes 300 SE. Scratches and small dents are present. Chrome is pitted. See photos.

  • General condition

A drivable parts car that can be made roadworthy, provided that an approved origin inspection can be obtained. It can either be driven as is or fully restored to achieve top condition. The recorded mileage cannot be guaranteed, as the odometer resets at 100,000 km.
