"In a condition that makes it suitable as an everyday vehicle."

Description

The Saab was delivered in 1998 to a couple who have owned it since then, except for the first few months. It is relatively well-maintained and has been very well cared for, managing to stay largely free from rust. It is in original condition with some not too noticeable scratches and dents on the paint and body, see pictures. The car starts easily and the drivetrain and suspensions function as they should, providing a driving experience without any noise, squeaks, or clunks. It has traveled about 150,000 kilometers and has been regularly serviced at a Saab workshop. The interior is also in a well-kept and intact condition, except for the fabric on the left rear door that has come loose from the door panel, see picture. The Saab has always been stored in a heated garage when not in use. The function of the electric window regulators was checked in 2023, and they work as they should. In recent years, the car has mainly been used for longer trips, between Uppsala and the west coast. The winter tires that come with it are in good condition, and the summer tires are fine with acceptable tread depth. The air conditioning has been repaired but does not function fully.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The engine and drivetrain are performing well. The brakes apply evenly and smoothly. The driving experience is reminiscent of a car that has traveled significantly less than 150,000 kilometers. The condition of the automatic climate control (ACC) is uncertain. The info screen has pixel errors, see the picture. The gas struts for the hood have failed and need to be replaced.

  • Interior condition

The interior is in good and well-cared-for condition. The headliner is intact and clean, aside from a bit of dirt. The fabric has come loose from the door panel on the left rear door.

  • Exterior condition

The original paint is in normal condition for the car's age and mileage. The body and paint show some small dents, scuffs, and touch-ups, see pictures. The right door's rearview mirror has been repaired with tape, see picture. A small trim piece is missing from the rear edge of the right front fender, see picture.

  • General condition

A Saab in good condition for regular use. Inspected and ready to drive.

Facts about the model

The all-new Saab 9-5 replaced the old Saab 9000 as Saab's largest car. The Saab 9-5 retains the classic Saab features but also appears in a station wagon model, which was historically unusual for Saab. At the launch of the 9-5 Combi in 1998, Saab hadn't had a station wagon since 1978, when the production of the Saab 95 was discontinued. The chief of design development was Einar J. Hareide.

Technically, only the engines and transmissions were the same type as in the Saab 9000. The Saab 9-5 was equipped with a split rear axle, a first for Saab. When introduced, the car was softly sprung, which provided good ride comfort. The interior was perceived as very modern at its release, featuring the "Night Panel," which allowed drivers to dim all instruments except the speedometer during night driving. Like the 9-3, it had the ignition key located between the front seats. Compared to the 9-3, the 9-5 offered significantly better space and riding comfort, even though its external size was not much different.

The Saab 9-5, especially the wagon version, has been very successful in Sweden, often topping sales charts for many years. It has also been ranked multiple times as the safest car in Sweden by Folksam.
