"User-friendly compact Mercedes-Benz with the mildest petrol engine configuration, few owners, and service-conscious current owner."

Description

It was delivered to its first owner in April 1975. According to reports, he drove the car very sparingly or hardly at all and began by rustproofing it in a somewhat unusual way. It’s said that he stood in his driveway and covered the entire car in grease, except for the engine, trunk, windows, and interior, of course. But inside the headlights, underneath in all the nooks and crannies, and on the chrome. When the car was later taken for rustproofing, the company informed the then-owner that “we have also removed what actually protected the car better before the treatment.” The first owner handed over an almost untouched and unused Mercedes to his daughter and son-in-law in the late eighties. They drove the car much more, and it accumulated miles through regular use. A car expense book from the years 1998 to 2002 provides a glimpse into the car’s costs during those years. The current owner bought it 10 years ago, and the latest and thus last approved inspection was done on April 27, 2024.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

The car has undergone a thorough mechanical overhaul, with many wear parts replaced or refurbished. The current owner has had the carburetor, radiator, all hoses in the cooling system, spark plug wires and plugs, distributor cap and rotor, valve cover gasket, and crankcase hoses renovated. Additionally, new NOS shock absorbers have been installed at the front, and the brakes have been replaced with discs and pads.

  • Interior condition

The interior remains untouched and worn, yet clean and fresh. The only noticeable wear is on the driver’s seat cushion, which has some holes. Otherwise, the material is of Mercedes quality.

  • Exterior condition

Partially original paint with rust blisters on the wheel arches and rust on the lower edges of the doors. Better used doors are available for separate purchase, as well as the left front fender. Original hubcaps are included, which is nice for those who want to buy new steel rims. The aftermarket rims currently installed are fitted with older GoodYear Eagle tires.

  • General condition

Pålitlig och tekniskt bra skick, och även presentabel till det yttre, men behöver plåtjobb och lack om den ska bli en finbil.

Facts about the model

It was referred to and still is as compact. A Merc-compact may not have been precisely that, compact in size, but it represented a kind of quality base car. Taxis, conscious Mercedes men, and middle managers. The W114/115 was the first model series from the brand to be offered with a wide range of engine options. A workhorse for many between 1968 and 1976.
