"Previously tested in demanding cruising conditions, maintaining a stable engine temperature—an essential trait for this type of vehicle and valuable knowledge for the crew."

Description

The car arrived in Sweden in 2017 and was registered for road use in September that year. The current owner purchased it a year later, in 2018, and is now selling it to pursue a new dream—a fun muscle car, specifically a Corvette.

Interesting and charming documentation traces the car’s history, including previous owners, transfers, and authorizations, all showing that it has remained within the same family or relatives throughout its life.

Its most recent—and only—Swedish vehicle inspection was carried out on September 21, 2017, during an approved period just before new regulations came into effect on April 20, 2018.

Condition

  • Mechanical condition

It has a nice exhaust note, though partially masked by a leak in the exhaust manifold on the left cylinder bank. Otherwise, the Rocket V8 rumbles along smoothly, with good response from both the brakes and the transmission.

  • Interior condition

Original interior in a stylishly patinated yet fresh condition. The door panels, headliner, and carpets show some wear and color variation, which adds to the charm and character of a car that has spent nearly 70 years in service.

  • Exterior condition

Parts of the car have been repainted in black, while the matte grey sections are, according to the owner, the original paint. In these areas, the lead-filled body seams are still clearly visible, with some slight lifting noticeable today. The result is a uniquely characterful two-tone finish with a hint of red undertone, adding to the car’s charm. Chrome and glass are in good condition.

  • General condition

    Road-ready Ninety-Eight in a rugged and charming near-original condition.

Facts about the model

The Oldsmobile 98—most commonly spelled out as Ninety-Eight—was the brand’s most luxurious model, offering the most advanced features and equipment.

The year 1957 marked an important milestone for Oldsmobile, as the design language was updated with clear inspiration from jets and the dawning space age. At that time, Starfire was not yet a standalone model series but rather a designation for more luxurious and well-equipped versions of the 98 lineup—primarily the convertible model.
